00:00:00.281 --> 00:00:01.383
Hey there, sunshine.
00:00:01.383 --> 00:00:03.849
Welcome to the Power On Plants podcast.
00:00:03.849 --> 00:00:13.509
We're your host, jared and Anita Roussell, and we're absolutely head over heels for whole plant foods and helping you navigate this incredible plant based journey.
00:00:13.509 --> 00:00:18.405
That's because our lives have been completely changed by plant based goodness.
00:00:18.405 --> 00:00:31.060
We used to struggle every day with excess pounds and low energy, vascular disease, joint pain and lack of sleep, just to name a few, and even though we're medical professionals, we still weren't getting practical answers that actually worked.
00:00:31.060 --> 00:00:39.506
So we dug into the research, we started living what we learned, and now we both have our lives back, and that's what we want for you, too.
00:00:39.506 --> 00:00:43.042
The truth is, you can do this, and it's not hard.
00:00:43.042 --> 00:00:47.472
You just need a way that will bring real and lasting change, and that path.
00:00:47.472 --> 00:00:51.414
It has to be simple and enjoyable, and it's got to be delicious too.
00:00:51.414 --> 00:00:54.223
So are you ready to live your life to the fullest?
00:00:54.223 --> 00:00:59.804
Then you're in the right place, because living without limits that's what Power On Plants is all about.
00:00:59.804 --> 00:01:04.784
So pull up your chair, grab a matcha latte and let's get started.
00:01:04.784 --> 00:01:14.093
Well, hello sister, we are counting down the top eight steps for dining out on a plant based vegan diet and actually enjoying it.
00:01:14.093 --> 00:01:23.165
Right, it can be a challenge to dine out if you don't know what to do, but with these eight steps, dining out is going to be so much more enjoyable for you.
00:01:23.165 --> 00:01:30.549
Now, if you did not hear our last episode, episode 222, go back and listen to that, because that is part one.
00:01:30.549 --> 00:01:34.043
This is a continuation of episode 222.
00:01:34.043 --> 00:01:40.725
I know that you're going to find some amazing, actionable steps here, and Jared and I can't wait to share it all with you.
00:01:40.725 --> 00:02:01.081
So enjoy it's the five minute delicious dressing that you have in your purse that is going to taste way better than anything they have on their menu, and you will not feel bad because your joints won't be aching tomorrow, you're not going to have low energy and be sluggish, and you will be so much more able to enjoy it, knowing that you're not going to have to pay tomorrow.
00:02:01.081 --> 00:02:02.668
It is a real thing.
00:02:02.668 --> 00:02:27.479
Now, this brings me to something that I've just got to talk about for a second, because sometimes our clients have mentioned to us that they feel like now that they're eating clean, that they're eating healthy and plant based and getting all these good foods especially when they go all in and they're feeling so much better, they're scared that somehow, by eating clean, they now feel bad when they go out to eat.
00:02:27.479 --> 00:02:29.387
So they've been eating well for a while.
00:02:29.387 --> 00:02:31.860
They eat clean during the week, let's just use that for an example.
00:02:31.860 --> 00:02:43.585
And then on the weekends you go out to eat a couple of times and you feel so bad for the first few days of the next week you feel like, oh great, I didn't feel this bad before when I wasn't eating clean.
00:02:43.585 --> 00:02:52.786
So somehow the clean eating or the plant based is causing me to be more sensitive to the quote regular foods, the standard American diet, which is absolutely not true.
00:02:52.786 --> 00:02:54.335
I'm going to let you in on a little secret.
00:02:54.335 --> 00:02:55.501
What's happening to you?
00:02:55.501 --> 00:03:03.186
You know how you feel those few days after you eat something that's not plant based, that has the oil, the fat, the salt, the sugar.
00:03:03.546 --> 00:03:07.665
And there's a name for that that we've coined is called the food hangover.
00:03:07.665 --> 00:03:09.534
The food hangover, food hangover Okay.
00:03:09.715 --> 00:03:19.658
So when you have a food hangover and you feel like crap I don't know any other way to say that it is awful and you just have this massive regret until you go out to the restaurant the next time.
00:03:19.658 --> 00:03:23.282
Okay, but you're not going to have this this time, because we're showing you how to do this the right way.
00:03:23.282 --> 00:03:27.197
But I want you to understand what is really happening here.
00:03:27.197 --> 00:03:32.550
It's not that the clean foods have made you now react to the bad foods.
00:03:32.550 --> 00:03:43.753
It's the fact that the way you feel the first of the week after you've eaten not clean on the weekends, after you've gone out to eat and not done it the right way, you're feeling the way you always felt before.
00:03:43.753 --> 00:03:46.580
This isn't something new that's happened to you.
00:03:46.580 --> 00:03:48.425
You just always felt that way before.
00:03:48.425 --> 00:03:51.181
It was your normal, so you didn't know any different.
00:03:51.181 --> 00:03:54.954
You didn't have those days of feeling great to compare it to you.
00:03:54.954 --> 00:03:59.931
Now You've been eating close to 100% plant-based, 70% plant-based.
00:03:59.931 --> 00:04:04.215
Your body is saying, oh, thank you, thank you, and you're starting to feel better and you're seeing your symptoms go away.
00:04:04.215 --> 00:04:08.284
The weekend hits and you think I'm just gonna go out and have a little this or that.
00:04:08.284 --> 00:04:09.067
Next thing.
00:04:09.067 --> 00:04:10.353
You know You're in pain.
00:04:10.937 --> 00:04:16.944
And this is what's happening, though, is that, as you clean up the diet and you feel better, it doesn't happen just like like that.
00:04:16.944 --> 00:04:20.055
It happens quickly very but not within just a few hours.
00:04:20.055 --> 00:04:31.074
I mean, there may be a transition over a few weeks where you start having that energy and your skin, your skin starts glowing and like you, where you didn't even realize that you, oh yeah, had joint pain or didn't feel good.
00:04:31.074 --> 00:04:41.845
You just thought well, I had a joint pain, but it was a couple months into us that we went a hundred percent, completely plant-based, that I started thinking well, wait a minute, my arm, my shoulders not hurting anymore.
00:04:41.845 --> 00:04:43.221
When did that happen?
00:04:43.221 --> 00:04:44.860
Just because it was kind of gradual.
00:04:44.860 --> 00:04:56.345
But if you eat one of these meals, then within a couple of hours, I mean sometimes there have been times when I ate hospital food and they snuck some oil in it because I would ask the guys there any oil in it?
00:04:56.345 --> 00:04:58.218
and like oh no, I don't think there's any oil in it.
00:04:58.218 --> 00:05:00.526
And then after about an hour you feel it.
00:05:00.526 --> 00:05:05.521
I mean, I could feel that my blood pressure was up, I could feel a little off and I thought so there was oil in it.
00:05:05.661 --> 00:05:08.206
Now you thought someone lied to me.
00:05:08.307 --> 00:05:14.634
I Can't trust that dude anymore but, then the next day you're between surgery and then you're hungry.
00:05:14.836 --> 00:05:24.024
It's like, okay, I gotta eat something yeah, and if you're new here, jaren's a physician assistant, so that's what he's talking about when you're doing telemedicine now, but I did do orthopedic spine surgery for a number of years.
00:05:24.675 --> 00:05:33.384
But getting back to this, that when you eat that meal you're going to feel that quickly, so you're going to notice that stark difference quickly.
00:05:33.384 --> 00:05:36.786
But I cleaned up your diet and you started feeling better.
00:05:36.786 --> 00:05:38.939
Then it was just more gradual.
00:05:38.939 --> 00:05:41.404
It wasn't an overnight feeling.
00:05:41.425 --> 00:05:44.199
Oh, yeah, you may Attribute that.
00:05:44.540 --> 00:05:47.714
Well, great, like you said, now that I've cleaned up, I can't enjoy this stuff.
00:05:47.714 --> 00:05:49.839
Right feel terrible, but I didn't feel terrible before.
00:05:49.839 --> 00:05:50.923
Well, actually you did.
00:05:50.923 --> 00:05:52.906
You just didn't notice it, because that was your mom.
00:05:53.656 --> 00:05:59.608
Yeah, I was your norm, but when I didn't know these tips were sharing with you today, I used to feel like I've been beaten after one meal out.
00:05:59.608 --> 00:06:00.875
I mean, that's ridiculous.
00:06:00.875 --> 00:06:02.622
I shouldn't feel that way now.
00:06:02.622 --> 00:06:07.622
Do not beat yourself up if you find out later I that had a little oil or a little this or that in it.
00:06:07.622 --> 00:06:09.927
The goal here is to not beat yourself up.
00:06:09.927 --> 00:06:11.422
You're gonna learn what you can have.
00:06:11.422 --> 00:06:14.115
You're gonna learn which restaurants will more easily cater to you.
00:06:14.115 --> 00:06:16.463
This is all a learning experience.
00:06:16.463 --> 00:06:22.055
Okay, so you're not going to beat yourself up if you get a little of something that you might not have eaten at home.
00:06:22.055 --> 00:06:31.482
Our goal is to have you walk away and feel as great as possible so you can keep moving and doing the things you love without having A setback for a couple of days and how you feel.
00:06:31.482 --> 00:06:33.247
I'm not talking about a setback in.
00:06:33.247 --> 00:06:35.500
Well, I'm not playing bass anymore, I'm not this or that.
00:06:35.500 --> 00:06:37.706
That's so, not true, okay?
00:06:39.096 --> 00:06:44.848
Also, too, we don't want you to feel limited, that you can't go out and enjoy these experiences with family and friends, because that's not.
00:06:44.848 --> 00:06:45.677
This is about?
00:06:45.737 --> 00:06:47.283
no, you absolutely can.
00:06:47.283 --> 00:06:50.435
So I hope that point makes perfect sense to you.
00:06:50.435 --> 00:06:59.214
But the reason that you feel it when you go out to eat and you don't try to tailor your meals, you just order something straight off the menu and you get a little meat and you have some cheese and you have some sour cream.
00:06:59.214 --> 00:07:09.687
The reason you're aching is not because, oh, now, my body sensitive to Regular food or the standard American diet, is because you always felt bad before, so you just didn't notice the difference.
00:07:09.687 --> 00:07:12.764
Okay, so number five is purse sauce.
00:07:12.764 --> 00:07:14.088
It take your sauce.
00:07:14.088 --> 00:07:15.694
Well, how do I make a sauce?
00:07:15.694 --> 00:07:17.478
Anita, I've got to have a salad dressing.
00:07:17.478 --> 00:07:22.209
I miss my salad dressing so much that tastes good and are sick to my ribs and are creamy.
00:07:22.209 --> 00:07:26.524
Girl, you're talking to the Dairy Queen a lemon, cheesy dressings and sauces and things.
00:07:26.524 --> 00:07:27.387
You know I got to have it.
00:07:27.387 --> 00:07:30.564
So am I purse sauce in it when I go to a restaurant 100% of the time?
00:07:30.564 --> 00:07:33.019
Absolutely, do I feel bad about it?
00:07:33.019 --> 00:07:34.021
Doesn't make me feel weird.
00:07:34.021 --> 00:07:35.906
No, cuz I'm discreet about it.
00:07:35.906 --> 00:07:37.976
No one ever thinks anything or asking thing.
00:07:37.976 --> 00:07:42.504
Actually, one time a waitress saw me pour the dressing on my salad no-transcript, what is that?
00:07:42.504 --> 00:07:46.785
And I said it's a ranch dressing I made and she said, girl, what you put in that, well, it looks amazing.
00:07:46.785 --> 00:07:49.247
And I told her she said I got to try that in my blender.
00:07:49.247 --> 00:07:57.110
Seriously, our dressings in the Power and Plants cookbook if you don't know where to start, these are five minute dressings you can get into your stuff.
00:07:57.110 --> 00:08:03.665
Go to powerandplantscom slash cookbook and get your copy today because it's digital, you can click right to it.
00:08:03.665 --> 00:08:06.788
It's super easy to access on any device you have.
00:08:06.788 --> 00:08:08.786
And listen, sister, I'm talking.
00:08:08.786 --> 00:08:10.841
When I say easy, I'm talking.
00:08:10.841 --> 00:08:14.867
You throw a few ingredients into your blender and turn it on your high speed blender.
00:08:14.867 --> 00:08:21.985
You need something that's gonna pulverize the stuff and you've got this smooth and creamy deliciousness that you are not gonna believe.
00:08:21.985 --> 00:08:23.129
It is a game changer.
00:08:23.129 --> 00:08:32.783
I don't know where all the nasty recipes are coming from, but if you've tried a slew of them, like I did when I first started this, and you feel like I give up, I can't do this, this is not gonna work for me.
00:08:32.783 --> 00:08:33.908
It's just not true.
00:08:33.908 --> 00:08:35.184
Okay, it's just not true.
00:08:35.184 --> 00:08:42.003
So find the right purses and sauces that work for you, that you absolutely love, and purse that sauce, okay six.
00:08:42.003 --> 00:08:46.604
There's no need for you to sit there miserable with a plain salad while everyone else is enjoying their meal.
00:08:46.604 --> 00:08:49.028
So please don't just order salad.
00:08:49.028 --> 00:08:51.980
If you like salad, great, but make it stick to your ribs, okay.
00:08:51.980 --> 00:08:58.907
And number seven drink a lot of water, because odds are you're gonna get a little more salt than you normally would have eaten when you're eating out.
00:08:58.907 --> 00:09:03.068
So drink a lot of water, because that can make you feel tired afterwards and not feel good.
00:09:03.068 --> 00:09:06.129
And you could consider taking a digestive enzyme.
00:09:06.129 --> 00:09:10.668
If you have one that you know works for you, you might wanna take one with your meal.
00:09:10.668 --> 00:09:15.524
And number eight I want you to remember this is one of the most important things we've shared in this episode.
00:09:15.524 --> 00:09:18.229
This is not really about the food.
00:09:18.229 --> 00:09:20.769
Please don't let your focus be on the food here.
00:09:20.769 --> 00:09:36.208
Yes, it can be absolutely delicious in a discreet and satisfying and joy-filled way, but this is about feeling energized every single day and being your absolute best, feeling great, so you can do all those things you love.
00:09:36.208 --> 00:09:38.388
We want you to be able to fully live.
00:09:38.388 --> 00:09:43.149
This is what our heart is for you, and we know it's possible because it's happened for us.
00:09:43.149 --> 00:09:45.869
It happens for our clients on a daily basis.
00:09:45.869 --> 00:09:51.307
We've seen the most chronic diseases of our time completely reversed right before our eyes.
00:09:51.307 --> 00:09:53.725
If you haven't heard my story, go back and listen to episode one.
00:09:53.725 --> 00:10:08.245
Yes, we were new to podcasting at the time so maybe we don't sound quite as relaxed on the mic, but you gotta hear the story because, sister, I have a feeling that there are parts of it in there you're gonna identify with, because I was in the same boat that a lot of you were in, and I feel your pain.
00:10:08.245 --> 00:10:20.548
I understand the struggle of not knowing how to eat and make it work, of not knowing things like how do you eat at someone else's house and how do you eat without oil and how do you actually make the food taste good.
00:10:20.548 --> 00:10:22.807
And I don't have two hours to spend in the kitchen.
00:10:22.807 --> 00:10:28.866
Listen, sister, if you're spending two hours in the kitchen something wrong you don't have to do that.
00:10:28.866 --> 00:10:31.202
Why are you making yourself miserable in the name of health?
00:10:31.202 --> 00:10:32.366
Those days are over.
00:10:32.366 --> 00:10:38.606
You found Power On Plants and you've got over 200 free episodes right here for you, with actionable steps to get you started.
00:10:38.606 --> 00:10:39.524
And if you think you know what.
00:10:39.524 --> 00:10:41.981
I don't have time to piece all that together, I'm busy.
00:10:41.981 --> 00:10:43.187
I need a step-by-step guide.
00:10:43.187 --> 00:10:44.163
I want you to hold my hand.
00:10:44.163 --> 00:10:52.239
Get on the Power On Plants wait list, you will be the first to find out about Power On Plantscom slash membership, even if we're in the waitlist period.
00:10:52.239 --> 00:10:54.865
We will let you know by email as soon as the doors open up.
00:10:54.865 --> 00:10:58.081
Next, sister, take one thing, what I'll always say.
00:10:58.081 --> 00:11:01.760
Take one thing that you learned from this and implement these things.
00:11:01.760 --> 00:11:02.604
Start using them.
00:11:02.604 --> 00:11:03.970
Take simple action.
00:11:03.970 --> 00:11:06.037
So the next time you go out to eat, what are you going to do?
00:11:06.037 --> 00:11:08.946
You're going to think about taking a purse sauce if you have time ahead.
00:11:08.946 --> 00:11:13.716
If you're already out and you can't do the purse sauce, you're going to order balsamic and brown mustard.
00:11:13.716 --> 00:11:15.562
Right, it really can be that simple.
00:11:15.562 --> 00:11:19.576
But let's just recap that top eight strategies for eating out.
00:11:19.576 --> 00:11:21.120
So you have a game plan.
00:11:21.120 --> 00:11:29.174
I don't want you to limit yourself to vegan-only options or feel bad or like the odd one out when your friends want to go to a quote regular restaurant.
00:11:29.174 --> 00:11:36.028
You can order off most any menu and still leave satisfied and focusing on what matters most.
00:11:36.028 --> 00:11:38.062
Number two do not make a fuss.
00:11:38.062 --> 00:11:38.945
Be discreet.
00:11:38.945 --> 00:11:44.283
You don't have to tell your life story at the table to your friends and family or the servers either.
00:11:44.283 --> 00:11:50.240
And number three look for a meal that you can easily tweak with just one or two ingredient swaps.
00:11:50.240 --> 00:11:53.727
Number four do not feel limited by the menu.
00:11:53.727 --> 00:12:07.811
Quietly, look over it ahead of time or at the table, and you're going to take out those purse weapons to use them right, it might be your phone, it might be a pen and a paper, and you're going to jot down the ingredients they have and make the best looking bowl at the table for yourself.
00:12:07.811 --> 00:12:10.966
Now, number five we're going to purse sauce.
00:12:10.966 --> 00:12:11.428
It, sister.
00:12:11.428 --> 00:12:12.312
You know what that means.
00:12:12.312 --> 00:12:13.442
We've talked all about it.
00:12:13.442 --> 00:12:18.659
If you don't remember, hit rewind and listen again, because the purse sauce is about to become your new best friend.
00:12:18.659 --> 00:12:25.951
And if you don't know what to make, remember the Power and Plants Cookbook is a simple, easy option for you to get the first ones that you love.
00:12:25.951 --> 00:12:34.861
We hear over and over again your sauces change my life just knowing how to make ranch and blue cheese and thousand island and, oh, the Asian peanut sauce.
00:12:34.861 --> 00:12:37.029
All these different things can go on.
00:12:37.029 --> 00:12:37.933
So many things.
00:12:37.933 --> 00:12:41.827
They can go on baked potatoes, they can go on salads, they can go on pasta.
00:12:41.827 --> 00:12:43.273
They can go on sandwiches.
00:12:43.273 --> 00:12:44.316
Right Sandwiches.
00:12:44.316 --> 00:12:46.615
You know, some restaurants do even have tofu.
00:12:46.615 --> 00:12:48.797
I mean, that's another thing you can look for on the menu.
00:12:48.797 --> 00:12:50.280
Okay, I'm getting sidetracked, girl.
00:12:50.280 --> 00:12:51.583
We got to get back to it here.
00:12:51.583 --> 00:12:53.717
So, number six what do you need to do?
00:12:53.717 --> 00:12:59.844
There is no need for you to sit there and be miserable with a plain salad, so don't just go straight to the salad.
00:12:59.844 --> 00:13:05.030
Yeah, that might be a good place to get some of the first ingredients to put on your list, but you don't have to make a salad here.
00:13:05.030 --> 00:13:12.418
Remember, at this restaurant, we've got furrow, we've got quinoa, we've got rice, we've got all these stick to the ribs delicious things.
00:13:12.418 --> 00:13:14.828
That's going to make you feel satisfied and happy.
00:13:14.828 --> 00:13:18.860
Number seven drink a lot of water and consider taking digestive enzymes.
00:13:18.860 --> 00:13:27.749
And number eight I want you to always remember this is about our relationships, because that is what life is all about.
00:13:27.749 --> 00:13:29.292
This food.
00:13:29.292 --> 00:13:32.101
Why is it so important for you to eat clean?
00:13:32.101 --> 00:13:34.130
What is it you want from this?
00:13:34.130 --> 00:13:40.937
What is it that you're going to be able to do when your aching joints are gone, when your cholesterol is back to normal, when your blood pressure is back to normal?
00:13:40.937 --> 00:13:47.482
Sister, this is what happens to people who follow the power on plants method, the strategies that we teach.
00:13:47.482 --> 00:13:49.570
We see it on a regular basis.
00:13:49.570 --> 00:13:51.916
The weight comes off without even trying.
00:13:51.916 --> 00:13:57.346
All these things are not just your age or just your genes.
00:13:57.346 --> 00:14:05.817
We've got to embrace these important things that you need to understand so that you can be freed to live the life that God's called you to live.
00:14:05.817 --> 00:14:07.761
He's got service he wants you to do.
00:14:07.761 --> 00:14:17.197
Inside your home, outside your home, people are waiting to hear the truth from you, to break free in whatever area of their life that you're going to speak truth into.
00:14:17.197 --> 00:14:31.705
How can you speak truth when you can't even hardly get out of bed, when you have to force yourself to live an active life that you want to live, but yet on the inside you're so tired you're just trying to figure out how you can quickly get to bed so you can hopefully recover, so you can survive the next day.
00:14:31.705 --> 00:14:34.075
Okay, you need to be able to think clearly.
00:14:34.075 --> 00:14:37.481
You need your vibrant energy and you want to feel good.
00:14:37.481 --> 00:14:38.504
Let me tell you something.
00:14:38.504 --> 00:14:39.868
This is how you do it.
00:14:39.868 --> 00:14:42.981
You learn how to power yourself well on plants.
00:14:42.981 --> 00:14:44.986
That's what power on plants is all about.
00:14:44.986 --> 00:14:47.602
What tip has blown your mind the most here today?
00:14:47.602 --> 00:14:58.746
I love sharing these tips with you, and so does Jared, but we want to hear about the one thing that you've learned today that is going to change things for you that you're going to put into practice right away.
