00:01:04.950 --> 00:01:19.379
Hi, friends, we're thrilled to have you join us today. No matter where you're listening from. We know a lot of you are not in the United States like we are you're coming from overseas.

00:01:16.560 --> 00:01:25.890
And we want to welcome you specifically, if you're listening in from France, or the Netherlands, Taiwan, Russia, UK, Denmark,

00:01:26.250 --> 00:01:27.750
Philippines, China,

00:01:27.840 --> 00:02:02.250
Argentina, we're so glad to have every one of you joining us. Today we're talking about how to make the switch to whole food plant based to you're not understand how difficult it can be trying to take on any lifestyle. Sometimes you just feel overwhelmed, and you don't even know where to start. And that's why we wanted to make this episode just for you. So you can make it a lot easier when you're switching to this new lifestyle. Which by the way is incredible, you made an absolutely life changing decision here. And we know because it's completely changed everything for us and our clients as well.

00:02:02.909 --> 00:02:13.199
And this isn't even just based on life experience. There are studies that show that eating this way can add as many as 10 years to your life, but also extra quality in those 10 years.

00:02:13.229 --> 00:02:39.719
Yeah, cuz it's not just about the number of years that you live. I mean, think about that you want those years that you live, you can live a longer life, and then it still be just miserable. I mean, what are those last year is going to be like the last 10 years. So today, because we don't want that for you. We don't want it for ourselves, we know you don't want to either. So we want to talk to you about how do you make the switch in a simple way that will work for your lifestyle?

00:02:40.050 --> 00:02:51.930
I think the first thing you need to do, and this is a big one is community, finding the right community of people around you, whether in person or virtually, who are doing the same thing.

00:02:51.990 --> 00:03:11.819
I mean, who are you hanging out with on a regular basis right online or in person either way, now we have online relationships, right? You don't you can't just think about who you're hanging around with on a daily basis. Sometimes you don't have as much control over that maybe if it's a work environment where you're hanging around with people and constantly in your office, like in the medical offices we worked in years ago.

00:03:11.819 --> 00:03:25.740
I mean, it would be people bring in stuff all the time. And we were just constantly surrounded by junk and your environment has a lot to do with your ability and your desire to continue on a right path and

00:03:25.740 --> 00:04:11.729
your success. Now with like what Anita saying is the foods around you, the people, they can sabotage you, if you have people that are constantly doing the things that you're trying to leave behind. It's like a tractor beam is just going to suck you back into that. Because the first time you start to miss those things that you're trying to eliminate, which the way we do it, we want to teach you replacements. So things that you love Even better, so that you never miss it. But in the beginning, there are going to be those times we just want to warn you so that these don't. So these things don't take you by surprise that you may have a craving for something. And if you have people around you that are doing these things, it's so easy. Just to fall back into that now a good way. My

00:04:11.729 --> 00:04:31.230
question is, I have a quick question for you. So think about people who are in that situation. You go to work day after day and you're surrounded by this step. What's one simple thing that they could do? Do you think I'm thinking of one, but I want to see what your input your ideas are on this. So we're going to work with this office.

00:04:28.050 --> 00:04:47.040
We're constantly surrounded by junk food. It's the holiday time right now. So it's worse Even then, what do you do to set yourself up for success? If you made this idea of you have this new year's resolution and you're going to start now or even you just no matter what time of the year it is you just want to do better for yourself.

00:04:48.420 --> 00:04:55.439
I think one of the first things that I would do is look at what do I have control over.

00:04:51.449 --> 00:05:11.459
Now you don't necessarily have control over your coworkers unless you want to quit, but that's not always a great option. Not always is a doable thing. But what I would look at is, well, my environment, what could I do maybe to, to set myself up for success, bring my own food,

00:05:11.459 --> 00:05:12.240
make it easier,

00:05:12.269 --> 00:05:19.290
make it easier possibly have the right kind of snacks and my desk, in your purse in your car. So that's a

00:05:19.290 --> 00:05:40.680
great idea. Think about all the different compartments in your life, you know, places where you could keep things to make things easier for you set, like Jared said, set something out on your desk, that you can actually see that really, that you love, not just something that's like, Okay, I'm gonna have this snack and they're having the good stuff, I mean, something you really love.

00:05:37.019 --> 00:05:53.220
finding those simple things that you love on a regular basis, just surround yourself with, that's huge. That's a huge key to your environment here. And when you're doing anything to make yourself healthier, or better yourself in any way, even outside of health, right?

00:05:53.579 --> 00:06:07.170
Getting those things in your life and surrounding yourself with the right environment. But then what if, what if another thing I thought of is you could find a new friend or a friend that you have already who you know, is wanting to get healthy.

00:06:07.319 --> 00:06:39.060
And you could kind of make a pact to go on this journey together and support each other and help each other. And maybe you could bring something new to try that you've liked and share it with them. And they could do the same with you and you'd have something new to look forward to or you go out to lunches together. And you explore some new restaurants in the area that you're not used to eating healthy plant base, maybe you start looking at the menus and learning how to read that and how to combine the good foods, the things that will fill you out well, so you come back feeling great, and the people next to you, bless their hearts.

00:06:34.889 --> 00:07:15.959
That's what we say, bless their hearts, their stuff, they're bloated, they're thirsty, and they're missing the rest of the day. Well, what happens you crash after lunch. I mean, most people eat their meal, and they're just dying to make it through the day, they're just forcing themselves to make it through just to muster enough energy. And if you're trying to build a business, or you're trying to, you know, help someone else, build theirs, whatever it is you're doing, even if you're, you know, a stay at home mom full time and you're trying to make great memories with your kids, you're going to crash and burn around lunchtime and just be dying to put those kids down for a nap or for your boss to get out of the office.

00:07:13.740 --> 00:07:24.899
So you could just have a breaker, you know, if you're the boss, then you're going to be feeling the pressure and be stressed out, which is going to make your health worse. So it's important that you get this environmental piece, right.

00:07:25.649 --> 00:07:43.230
So you want to build up a community of people around you. So if you can't do it in person, then we encourage you to go online. And there are places online that we have our free Facebook group, where we have other like minded individuals that are trying to explore this and learn more and go farther.

00:07:43.259 --> 00:07:57.120
And we'd love to have you join us because like we mentioned earlier, there's no way we're going to just be walking down the street and meet all of you. And we'd love to do that. But with the amount of messages that we get and the time that we have, and we're here taping things for you.

00:07:57.269 --> 00:08:53.730
We're not always out and about but a lot of you are in even different countries, we'd love to get to know you. So what better way than to just hop into the free Facebook group. It's called smarter, healthy living, it's on. Obviously, it's on Facebook, because speakers come in and let us know how things are going for you. What questions do you have if there's something you'd like to see on the podcast, and we're always happy to help out in any way that we can for you. So get in there and get to know other people that are on this journey, because you're going to get so many just different ideas about what to do and how to make this work and how to make it simple, and how to make it quick. And we want it to just taste good straight up, I'm just going to tell you, like if it doesn't taste good, you'll hear me say this over and over again. If this is your first time joining us, great, it's probably the first time you've heard me hear it, say it, but you're gonna hear it a lot and over the course of your time with us because it's got to taste good, or you're not going to continue to do it and you're not going to enjoy it.

00:08:54.000 --> 00:09:01.139
And with the community, we will always go farther together. Absolutely. All right.

00:08:56.190 --> 00:09:01.139
Next would be to find a coach.

00:09:02.070 --> 00:09:13.470
Now, this could be in the form of a podcast, or some type of audio or video that you see online. Somebody that can ask you right questions that can really help guide you in the right direction,

00:09:13.500 --> 00:09:21.899
we'll help you find out what's been holding you back. So far, you've tried a lot of different things. And this is for any area of your life. But especially in your help.

00:09:21.990 --> 00:10:04.799
Sometimes you need that outside perspective just to help you reframe your focus to get your mindset right, and to just ask you the questions help you dig out what's going on in your life or what has stopped you in the past and what would help you to move forward and sometimes you just can't figure that out on your own because you're stuck in that same old pattern and you need a pattern interrupt and a coach can give you that about faster than anything. And Jared and I can tell you from experience from our own experience with coaches, we would not tell you to get a coach if we didn't believe in having a coach. It works. It builds your momentum and it can break. break free from the thoughts that have been holding You back and help you to move forward and whatever area of your life you're trying to move forward in.

00:10:04.860 --> 00:10:09.659
And I think it can even help you discover things that you didn't realize were even there. So

00:10:09.720 --> 00:10:10.500
huge. So

00:10:10.500 --> 00:10:37.679
with the coaching, you can have it online. Or you could have it in a group, like a Facebook group type setting where you have someone leading that group that can do the same thing. benefit with that is that you can ask them questions in some form, whether it's type chat, or however they'd like a Facebook Live, then there's also even having a one on one coach, where you're meeting on zoom, or some other type of call like that, yeah, dedicated just to you,

00:10:37.769 --> 00:12:07.710
if you can have somebody to ask questions, that is just steps ahead of you that they can show you what they've done and what works for them. It's really great. And Jared and I are so completely passionate about this. And we went ahead and started a membership group, and people are getting incredible results inside there, the people that have been beta testing it, and we're first founding members, and we're getting ready to open it before too much longer, you guys are gonna see some information coming out about that we actually hadn't planned on talking about that on this episode, but I kind of let it slip in that previous episode. So we're gonna go ahead and let people know. And it is going to be incredible, it's a great place for you to make Connect, but also to ask questions to somebody who knows, he knows the scientific backing behind it. Because Joe, you're not, you know, there are a lot of people out there that are going to tell you, this worked for me. So it's gonna work for you, you know, and you just, there's a great deal of experience that goes along with it. And that's a fantastic thing. You need somebody who's had success with where you're going. But the main thing with us too, just being gerrits, a physician assistant, I'm a registered nurse by trade, you know, we need to have the scientific backing, we're not going to do anything that doesn't have scientific evidence backing it up. And we want that for our clients. And so one reason we felt so passionate about this was to be able to come in there and help our clients to be able to get that momentum 90. Because with us, when we've had coaches, it's just been the door open for us on opportunities and possibilities. And that's what you're looking for.

00:12:08.610 --> 00:12:18.419
Okay, for this next topic, I want you to know, there's not a right or wrong, and I'm talking about the speed at which you make the change.

00:12:14.639 --> 00:12:48.029
For some people, they do it gradually. They want to do it slower, and their ways of doing that. But then for others, and maybe have some some more serious issues. It's not just a I want to get healthy, but you were like Anita was several years back where she felt like she was dying. And then you just go all in. And we want you to know that there really is no right or wrong and that it's whatever works best for you and your situation. We know in the very beginning, we made some gradual changes. But that was only because we found this this information just bit by bit

00:12:48.360 --> 00:12:50.279
and hadn't piece everything together on our own.

00:12:50.279 --> 00:13:01.019
It took us years to figure it out. And we don't want that for you for sure. But you can definitely do it gradually and just start maybe one thing you could do is start with one meal.

00:13:01.200 --> 00:13:32.399
Just think what's this meal I love you Love chili very easy to do replacements. It's just one thing you take out. So what would you do to Chile to change it to whole food plant base, I'm going to remove the meat and I'm going to put in a lot of different beans. You don't have to just do pinto beans or black beans. You could do a mix bento black bean red bean and like a red kidney bean or something or you can make lentil chills. I mean it's amazing there. There are so many different delicious ways to have the same thing the same thing to love.

00:13:32.580 --> 00:13:47.220
Now in our case, as we learned more and more there was almost a snowball effect. We tried to implement them faster and faster. And really if we had known then what we know now we would have jumped all in but our situation was a lot more serious.

00:13:47.789 --> 00:13:52.559
The reality is though you don't have to wait till your situation is that serious?

00:13:52.590 --> 00:13:57.149
You don't have to wait for the four alarm fire before you start trying to do something out. Yeah,

00:13:57.149 --> 00:14:22.590
why don't you want to wait to do that. I mean if we had known years ago that how we were living would lead us to where I ended up. We would have started doing this years ago and then knowing what we know about how much we love the food and how it makes us feel great and how we don't even think about it as a different lifestyle anymore. It's just how we live and we have food freedom like a friend of ours says and it's just really freeing living this way.

00:14:22.889 --> 00:14:52.710
I think back about when we first got married we got married at 21 and I remember the apartment It was a two bedroom apartment a little kitchen and what did we eat she would put some type of pot roast or whatever in the oven and cook that and that was the primary part of the meal you know is always meat with a little bit of veggies on the side just to make a little extra colorful just because we were quote unquote supposed to. Just going back that far we would have done everything differently.

00:14:52.769 --> 00:16:43.350
Even though I was cooking though and I was trying to do better for our family and I was trying to keep both of us healthy even then we thought about our health. We Didn't want to eat bad stuff, we didn't want to do anything that was bad for us. But, you know, we enjoyed our share of junk food, don't get me wrong. But I mean, even when we were trying to make the healthier choices, like, I would go to the store, and I would buy our meat, but I would buy grass fed beef, and I would buy free range chicken and I buy the healthy eggs. And I buy the dairy with this hormone free with no added hormones not knowing and no one telling me that dairy is filled with hormones and it naturally naturally filled with it. And then when they actually take the milk and how they treat the cows, it even is at a time when the hormones are greatly increased. So then you're bringing all that on your body, and our body reacts to those hormones, and it can cause sickness, and it can cause us to feel bad, it can cause us to hold on to weight, all of that to say you could just try one meal a day. Or maybe you're ready to bump up the goal and do more. So one easy way to do that is just do a couple of meals a week, you can have a lot of people do a Meatless Monday make that offene thing to do in your family and get the kids involved. I mean, start that never Is it too early. I have people tell me, you know, my kids, I just like vegetables, they're one year old or two years old? Well, they're gonna eat what you have there nine times out of 10 unless there is a physical problem, or there's some kind of something going on underneath. Children are going to eat what you put in front of them nine times out of 10. And we found that just getting them involved is a huge part of the process with the shopping with the with the recipe selection, let them chop up some little things. We have some great little knives, we've just discovered that in the beginning,

00:16:43.350 --> 00:16:56.220
I remember you would think it was Madeline, you would let her scoop, maybe if it was rice, you would let her scoop and then pour it into the bowl and do some of those things. And then you would let her help you mix whatever it was that we were preparing.

00:16:56.250 --> 00:17:35.730
They love to start, they love to pour and they love to help choose and feel like they're a part. Let them help serve at the table, set the table, do little things like that. get them involved, teach them the names of the vegetables, if you don't know teach them while you learn. It's never too early. And that sense of curiosity, stir it up in them. It's the perfect age and our children love whole plant foods. They love it. It's how they live. And they cook that way. And it's very simple, but it's because they've done it for so long. But it's also simple enough that they can show it to their friends and their friends can do it right away without ever being healthy playing pace.

00:17:32.490 --> 00:17:53.880
That's the beauty of it. It really is that simple. But with children just going back to that since we got off on a tangent here. And think about also I think a lot of it has to do with to when they're young, it is easier if you are feeding them what you're eating because they develop the tastebuds for the fruits and vegetables early on.

00:17:53.880 --> 00:18:22.650
So if your breakup in a jar baby food, if you have babies or if you're pregnant, do yourself a favor breakup in a jar baby food and just tribe out of that. Do you want to eat that? What's that going to do to your taste buds in the long run? And our children ate from the beginning we decided we wanted to eat what we what we made. And so we've shared with you one of our favorite kitchen tools to do that. Go back and listen to that episode where we share our favorite appliance with Netgear marulan number that was I'm not sure it's one of the first ones.

00:18:22.650 --> 00:18:23.490
Okay, back to number

00:18:23.490 --> 00:18:24.690
one favorite kitchen tool.

00:18:24.720 --> 00:19:03.480
Yep. So you'll find that there. And it shares how easily we did that and how to store it and everything. So that's a great thing to do. If you're, if you're expecting a little one, or you have one that's very young as well. But really, it's it is a simple way to adopt for everyone, once you have a system and you know how to do that. But back to our topic today. We're talking about just simple ways to adopt a healthy play based lifestyle. So so far we this week. Yeah. So we've, we've talked about community, your surroundings, your environment, getting a coach getting inside a group or a membership somewhere where you can ask your questions to get them answered easily.

00:19:03.750 --> 00:19:22.529
Starting by making a change in something you already absolutely love like chili. by just taking out the ingredients that are not healthy plant base, things like dairy, and meat and eggs, taking those things out. And just putting in something different that you also love and making it tastes great.

00:19:22.588 --> 00:19:40.348
But being sure to bump up the seasonings and the spices because a lot of that is what we enjoy about meat. And our encouragement at this point is just start where you are and do what you can. I mean making small changes definitely will help and studies even show that small changes do yield results.

00:19:40.348 --> 00:19:42.509
It doesn't necessarily have to be an all or nothing.

00:19:42.778 --> 00:19:51.838
But the more you do the faster you're going to see change and that's the beauty of it. You get to decide, Jarrod are not judgmental in any way shape or form. This

00:19:51.839 --> 00:19:53.369
is a judgment free zone.

00:19:51.839 --> 00:19:53.369
Yeah,

00:19:53.368 --> 00:20:27.298
it's your journey and we're going to be thrilled for you. No matter which set she taken. We love celebrating your wins with you. We want you to know just to keep it simple No matter if you go all in right away, or you're just doing one meal a week or a couple of meals a week to get started, start making simple replacements. And an easy way to do that is just pick one thing like we talked about that you love, like chili or tacos or something like that, take out the ingredients that are not healthy for you and put something else in there that you're going to absolutely love.

00:20:23.429 --> 00:20:50.338
Look for recipes that are 10 ingredients or less, that's less overwhelming, it's less time consuming, it's less to buy at the store, it's list, many invested, and you're just going to enjoy that better. There's a cookbook that I've written that we're about to release, and it includes a lot of recipes. I think almost every recipe in there has enter 10 ingredients, I need to go back and count them. But I know I'm not one for as much as I even love to cook.

00:20:50.519 --> 00:20:56.278
I'm not one to get in there and just make it difficult for myself, it's got to be simple.

00:20:53.638 --> 00:21:08.368
We've just got too much on our plate. So make it really easy by choosing recipes with 10 ingredients or less. And then find ways to make it fun and celebrate your wins as you go.

00:21:05.788 --> 00:21:19.138
You know a lot of times we forget to enjoy the journey. And we just dream about the destination Oh, it's gonna be so great when I get there. Enjoy this journey. I promise sheet.

00:21:15.388 --> 00:21:34.409
The more you embrace it, the more that you do these things to get more of the five foundational feeds into your life. You're going to feel so much better. It'll change a lot of things in your life. So don't forget to enjoy the journey.

00:21:30.479 --> 00:21:34.409
