00:00:00.689 --> 00:00:35.009

I'm gonna try it out. So you get online, you find a recipe, I think you get one that you think looks good. Go to the store, you buy the ingredients, you're all excited, you get home, you prepare this food and you sit down and you are just prepared for this moment of excitement. And then you put it in your mouth and then wha pom pom pom, it's just no good.

00:00:35.939 --> 00:00:42.659
I hate it when that happens all the time. All the energy all the money spent. And you had such high hopes, right?

00:00:42.869 --> 00:00:52.710
I mean, you wanted it to taste amazing, kind of like what you were used to. But it doesn't.

00:00:46.740 --> 00:00:55.289
Why is that? Usually it's missing the herbs and the spices.

00:00:55.590 --> 00:00:59.130
So today, we are going to kick it herbs and spices style.

00:01:00.450 --> 00:01:39.120

00:01:32.400 --> 00:01:50.219
Yeah, now, I promise you, there is never a dull moment around here. And there shouldn't ever be a dull moment on your plate, either. So today we're talking about herbs and spices, which you want to say about that.

00:01:51.480 --> 00:01:52.620
I like it spicy.

00:01:52.709 --> 00:02:24.150
I like it spicy. We love herbs and spices and sauces. If you are missing something on your plate and you make a dish, don't throw it out until you try to adjust the seasoning on it would it tastes better with a little heat on it? I've grown to love hot sauces. You know, it's funny because I didn't like hot things before we start aiming this way. I avoided spice and I found myself eating more and more hot things as we go. It's just your taste profile and your the way you perceive taste, it just changes

00:02:24.150 --> 00:02:45.960
it changes in with the different peppers, you notice the different nuances in the flavor so that it's not just hot. And actually, too if you eat the hot sauces in the peppers on a regular basis, then your body gets accustomed to it, it doesn't seem so hot. So then you can enjoy it, you can enjoy the flavors. But it's also a lot of health benefits. I mean, it's known to help boost your immunity as well.

00:02:46.110 --> 00:03:03.030
Yeah, and hot sauces with that power. We're talking about that the heat and the peppers. I mean, there's scientific studies out that talk about how that does, like you're saying it boosts your immunity, but so do the herbs and spices like oregano, and I'm thinking about oregano time and rosemary,

00:03:03.060 --> 00:03:18.090
they're actually known to be antibacterial, and antiviral. And the beautiful thing about it too, is that there's studies that suggest that when you eat those, that it does not disrupt the good bacteria in your gut like regular like regular antibiotics.

00:03:18.120 --> 00:03:27.060
Yeah, taking antibiotics, taking actually even ibuprofen can mess up your gut bacteria, we think you know, oh, that's never a counter medication.

00:03:24.000 --> 00:03:41.069
That's not gonna bother me at all, or we just don't think about any side effects from that. And so a lot of people pop those everyday cuz they're in pain. And what we need to do is replace those things with the good stuff, the nutrients that your body craves, that it needs, and a lot of which can be found in your herbs and spices

00:03:41.280 --> 00:03:43.710
in the herbs are also anti inflammatory to your point.

00:03:44.370 --> 00:03:44.909
Good point.

00:03:45.000 --> 00:04:08.009
Good point. So that's what that's probably why when we started doing this, right, that I got a lot of pain relief, I started eating a lot of the things that were inflammatory like oils, and I started eating more of the things like herbs and spices that I needed to get in my life to get rid of the inflammation. So it's not just about removing things, it's what can I also add in its place that will make me feel great. So I can do the things I want to do.

00:04:08.580 --> 00:04:27.509
So really, this is a win all around in addition to anti inflammatory, anti viral, anti bacterial, and actually, they're even showing that they have anti cancer properties that's been found in fresh ground black pepper. In addition to all these health benefits, you get huge flavor, flavor.

00:04:27.629 --> 00:04:32.490
And while you're talking about black pepper, I'm just going to throw a little truth bomb out there for everybody.

00:04:32.970 --> 00:05:03.779
This is a simple thing you can do to change the flavor of your feed, stop buying pre ground black pepper, it is not it doesn't have quite the nutritional benefit because a lot of times it's been around for a long time. I haven't looked into this for a while but years ago when I looked into it there was there were regulations on how many parts of this or that bad thing that was allowed to get through into it that you don't want in your food just by the name Have it been ground and how it's produced. But the main reason

00:05:04.379 --> 00:05:23.579
what she's alluding to are potential critters that may be in the places where this stuff is made. I was also there, I know. But we've got to let we got to let you know. Yeah, and the other thing too is that when they're pre ground, a lot of the flavor chemicals that are inside the pepper,

00:05:24.029 --> 00:05:25.980
like a burst pocket, yes,

00:05:26.009 --> 00:05:39.509
the taste sparks will actually turn into gas and evaporate. So that's why when you have ground pepper that's been in a shelf, for years, it just tastes bland. But whenever you have fresh ground black pepper, so fragrant,

00:05:39.540 --> 00:08:52.200
listen, you will not believe the difference that one little thing will make for you it will make in your health and it will make in your just the flavor profiles of your food. So by whole peppercorns, not just the black ones, there are red ones and white ones, and they all tastes different. You can buy Yeah, you can buy the mixed, you don't even have to own a pepper grinder, because they sell them now, just in the premium pepper grinders. But if you don't want to keep buying and throwing away pepper grinders and you want to save on garbage, and all those things, which are great to do for the earth. And also it saves you money in the long run, you can buy big jars of pepper corns, and just keep refilling the pepper grinders, we actually have one that we love, we'll be glad to link it in the show notes below, check it out. And we'll put our link down there for that. And you can get one of those on Amazon. Now, when you're learning how to get these new flavors in there, you need to think about, if you have a special dish you like, let's say you love chili, but in your chili, you'd like for it to be really smoky. So you always cooked a big smoky piece of meat in there, I'm just using this as an example. Maybe you just use hamburger in your chili. But just say you have a soup that you used a piece of meat in that was smoky and it gave that flavor. You need to know how to get that smoky flavor again, and you need somebody to show you how to do that. It's really important. But one easy way to do that is smoked paprika, right. So get there different types of paprika, sweet paprika, smoked paprika, get this smoky one and get some in those dishes that you like to have that meaty smoky flavor. That's one easy thing that you can do. And this is one of the things we teach our members inside of our membership is how to do that in a simple way like this replaces this flavor. And this replaces that flavor. Because when you can do that, again, it's going to be closer to how you like it, how it's tasted before. And as you go, that's not going to matter as much to you. Because you're going to taste different things in the food, you're going to like things you didn't like before, you're not going to prefer things that you do. I mean, I'm going to go a little bit off topic here just for a moment, because I want to share with you something that just recently happened to me Just recently, and we've been doing this for years, your body continues to change based on where you are. And if you start listening and paying attention to your body, you'll know what you need to eat and what you need to stay away from. So I've always loved pasta, I've been a huge pasta fan. And as we made the shift, we started eating more of the whole wheat, whole grain pastas, which are much much healthier for you, we still need a lot of them in general, even as a family because they are a processed food. It's just not so much so as the white grains, so we tend to go the whole foods on that. But I found that I don't prefer that anymore. I mean, we sat down and had a pasta dish the other day, and I just wanted the sauce. I just wanted those things, all that to say your flavor profiles and things that you taste and what you crave. That's all going to change. But in the beginning, you need a way to recreate those flavors that you love. And one of the big keys as getting someone to show you how to do that thing. And one of those good ways is again, smokey paprika for the meat flavor. And you can find it pretty much in any store around and I order mine online, you can do that as well.

00:08:52.379 --> 00:08:59.399
And another example of this is that there was a soup at a favorite Italian restaurant that we used to love and chain.

00:08:59.698 --> 00:09:15.899
Yes, a big chain. And we wanted we like the soup and we wanted to make it healthier. So what we did is we took the Italian sausage out of it, and then just use the herbs typically found in that sausage and just put it in the soup directly. And it was amazing. Yeah, the same exact flavor we

00:09:15.899 --> 00:09:18.869
don't miss is very sausage g absolutely delicious.

00:09:18.869 --> 00:09:32.158
And it's it's a white creamy type soup that had sausage. And so then we had found a way to recreate the dairy and we did that and you'd never know. I mean, I could feed that to anybody who eats meat and dairy.

00:09:28.499 --> 00:09:45.328
They would absolutely you know you'd miss a sausage if you couldn't see it there and you knew it was supposed to be there the flavor was you wouldn't miss it at all. And then you've got that thick, creamy dairy soup. I love it that creamy soup.

00:09:42.208 --> 00:09:45.328
There's just something very

00:09:45.720 --> 00:09:46.379
comforting.

00:09:46.379 --> 00:10:04.198
I was gonna say you can easily get that in a plant based lifestyle. But that's what's important as you start being able to replace those things. So get back getting back to the herbs and spices. Get those sausage flavors in there. And you'll start not missing the things just replace what's gone.

00:10:04.739 --> 00:10:09.509
And don't just take something out, don't say, Well, I'm just not going to eat the meat.

00:10:07.139 --> 00:10:13.109
You've got to learn how to get those flavors back in there.

00:10:09.509 --> 00:10:13.109
herbs and spices are huge key.

00:10:13.528 --> 00:10:18.269
Now, is there one that's better than another? And by that, I mean dried versus fresh?

00:10:19.500 --> 00:10:23.399
Are you asking me? Are you asking them? Because I was waiting for the date, sir.

00:10:24.298 --> 00:10:26.009
I'm asking, you know,

00:10:26.038 --> 00:10:35.369
absolutely not. they've tested them for different values as far as how good they are for for your body without getting into all the different values and what those are right now.

00:10:36.328 --> 00:11:15.599
And what they found is both are great for you keep some on hand that are ground and dried. Or we do we do that we keep whole ones and we grind them as we go, we keep some that are pre ground, it just depends on the different spice and what works best for you. Keep a wide variety, try new things, it's one of the greatest things you can do for yourself. There are flavors out there that you've never even tried before. Because you've always stuck with what you've known. Trust me, I know. We did it, we did it for years. And then we all of a sudden, we found out there all these other spices and all these other flavors, and it's like your palette just comes alive. A benefit

00:11:15.629 --> 00:11:32.578
of the dried herbs is that they can store for a long period of time, they're very easy to use, and you can just keep them on your shelf. But you'd be amazed at how easy the fresh ones are to a lot of them are extremely easy to grow. Our daughter had a basil plant growing in a pot in her bedroom.

00:11:32.849 --> 00:11:36.028
And it grew, I don't know about two, two and a half feet tall.

00:11:36.058 --> 00:11:40.109
It was just it was so easy.

00:11:36.058 --> 00:11:50.639
Peppermint peppermints an easy one to grow. Now we'd recommend for Well, yes, we recommend, if you want to do this, to put it in a pot, just because it can take over your yard. I mean, within months, you've got it everywhere.

00:11:50.788 --> 00:12:06.298
Yeah, it goes crazy. It's still delicious and different things. Try experiment and try different herbs and spices, dried and fresh. And keep a lookout I mean, sometimes you don't even notice but near the priority section of a lot of markets. Now they even have organic ones and little pots.

00:12:06.298 --> 00:12:24.629
And they're a lot of times it's just as cheap to buy that as if you went to buy the fresh ones and the little plastic pouches, take a look and buy one of the even if you think I don't want to grow this in my house, I don't want to spend time watering it and taking care of it by that instead of the other ones because there's a lot more on the plant. And it can last a lot longer.

00:12:24.658 --> 00:12:47.219
But the benefit of that is that it's alive and it's growing. Instead of being one that's been cut a week or two ago that's been refrigerated, it's still alive. So you're going to get a lot of those health benefits that you might lose if it's been harvested for a little while. But that was one of the plants that whenever our daughter grew the basil, we bought one of those and just put in a bigger pot, and then it just took over from there.

00:12:47.250 --> 00:13:37.980
Yeah, we used it. I mean, we'd actually go into her room, clip some off, put it in our feet, and it would just grow right back, it was a great plant to have. They're just simple to make, you can cut out a little tiny area for your for your garden, maybe even do a little rice bed or something right next to your house. Sometimes people use little window boxes to grow herbs and spices, they're just not hard to grow. And it's much cheaper to grow them, it will save you money, it can save time as well. I mean, if you're in a pinch, just swing by the straw on the way home and get them don't make it difficult. The whole thing is do this in a way, every bit of it that you adopt in a way that's going to work for your lifestyle, it may work for somebody else a whole different way. But for you do what's going to work for you and that'll help you make it stick for a lifetime. And we talked about trying new herbs and spices. Don't forget there are a lot of mixes that you can buy.

00:13:38.220 --> 00:14:59.669
Now I'm not talking about the packets like the chili packets and the taco packets. We'll talk about those later. But if you have a lot of those start reading the ingredients, anti caking agents, a lot of cancer causing agents in there. There's just things you don't want added colors, things like that you can make your own, it's really is simple. If you have the basic herbs and spices you can combine your own, it literally takes under a minute. Anyway, try some of the new mixes look for ones that don't have any added oils or added anti caking agents just by names and get some nice new blends into your life. It's a lot of fun or make your own. But also remember the ones that are tried and true your absolute favorites. Let's just say you love oregano, put more of it the more you get, the better now i'm not talking like Dumbo bottle in there, because that might not be the most tasty thing. But just get more the more you get the more antioxidants the more phytonutrients the more you'll find inflammation, everything, all of that so get more of the ones you love and try the new ones too. Thanks for joining us today. If you love today's show or the show in general. Take a moment to leave a review and let us know we absolutely love hearing from you. And until next time, keep it spicy
