00:00:00.390 --> 00:00:11.669
I was walking through the health food store, and I heard it again. One employee was talking to a man about carbs.
00:00:12.240 --> 00:00:27.690
And what I heard was, whenever you do, Joanie bananas and potatoes, don't eat carbs, carbs will make you fat. And today, that's what we're talking about.
00:00:23.969 --> 00:01:09.930

If you're sick and tired of being sick, and tired, you're in the right place. So pull up a virtual chair, grab your matcha latte, and let's get started. It can all be so confusing. Trust me, we get it. I mean, we hear it when we're out and about.
00:01:05.609 --> 00:01:27.450
carbs are bad for you. Don't eat bananas. Don't eat potatoes. I mean, somehow they become this big villain that they're out to get us. And the truth is all carbs aren't created equal. A carb is not a car. And carbs won't make you fat. What am I eating right now, Jarrod?
00:01:28.170 --> 00:01:29.459
You are eating a potato.
00:01:29.700 --> 00:01:32.909
And how many times a week do we eat potatoes?
00:01:33.379 --> 00:01:34.010
Many.
00:01:34.430 --> 00:01:36.140
What would you say just on average?
00:01:37.579 --> 00:01:41.209
I would guess, four or five days out of the week,
00:01:41.629 --> 00:01:50.450
Four or five days out of the week. And what's happened to us since we've been eating so many potatoes and fruits and vegetables and grains and nuts and seeds and like games.
00:01:51.019 --> 00:01:55.489
We've had to buy new clothes. Not because we got bigger, but because we got smaller.
00:01:55.549 --> 00:02:15.590
I mean, think about this for a minute. And this is not just our experience. This is what typically happens on whole food plant based. The thing is, okay, just take one of our clients, for example. We'll call her Linda. Now, Linda had started our membership with us.
00:02:11.389 --> 00:02:39.770
And she was having a lot of pain in her neck. She was not feeling well. She was tired a lot. And she was about a size 14 at the time she started. And as she went on and on, she learned how to enjoy whole food plant based living and told us that she found food freedom. And we're hoping to have her on and she'll be able to tell you her story firsthand. But it was really amazing what happened to her.
00:02:40.009 --> 00:02:48.979
She ended up going shopping with a friend of hers and they were out pulling clothes off the rack. And she pulled something out that she wanted to try on.
00:02:45.860 --> 00:02:52.280
And her friend looked at it and said, that's not gonna fit you.
00:02:48.979 --> 00:03:22.400
She said what are you talking about? You're nowhere near that size. She said, Yes, I am. This is my size. I'm size 14. And her friend said no, you're more like a size six. And so she hadn't been weighing herself and freaking out about weight and controlling her portions and controlling your calories and grams of this and counting points. She wasn't doing any of those things. She was eating high carb healthy foods. So it works that way Jared and I lost over 55 pounds eating this way.
00:03:18.020 --> 00:04:10.069
We enjoy them. Our body was created to be fueled on these things. The problem happens when we take things from their created form. So they're made in this beautiful package by our Creator that we're meant to enjoy and our bodies thrive on surprise, science minds that we thrive on things the way they were created. Fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains. These things don't make you fat, but they do contain a lot of things you need by nature, fiber, phytonutrients, minerals, antioxidants, vitamins, these things your body absolutely requires for good health. They're protective, they protect your eyesight give you energy help you fight inflammation, that means pain and all the other diseases that go along with inflammation.
00:04:10.250 --> 00:05:16.790
These foods fight that and they are high carb foods, but they're healthy carbs. They help you fight infections, fight heart disease, type two diabetes, even cancer. So somehow, even though they do all these things, people have lumped these healthy carbohydrates in with other things we call carbs, things that have been pressed out, extracted, highly processed, and then we're talking about white flour, white sugar, cookies, cakes, candies, breads, white breads, these are the things that lead to obesity. These are the things that lead to disease, and they're carbs, but because we've lumped them all together, then people just say, well, carbs are bad. It's the type of carbs if it's pressed out process like we said before If it's not in its natural package it science shows research backs it up. See those things will make you overweight and they will make you unhealthy. And then you add on to that meat products, animal products, dairy, sour cream, butter, all those things,
00:05:16.790 --> 00:05:18.290
All the saturated fats.
00:05:18.478 --> 00:05:24.598
Yeah. And then you're getting things that promote unhealthy lifestyles, you're getting things that make you fat.
00:05:25.108 --> 00:05:41.038
So think about some of the ancient cultures. Let's look at Okinawa, Japan. When you look at them, their diet consisted of 85% carbohydrates, and they were thin. They live to very old age, but they were also extremely active for their entire lives.
00:05:41.098 --> 00:05:43.829
So then what happened and I quinoa after that,
00:05:44.038 --> 00:05:49.889
well, unfortunately, some of the fast food chains made their way over to Japan, and finally down into Okinawa.
00:05:50.999 --> 00:06:01.829
And they started eating that way. And they started getting obese, they started getting a lot of the same chronic diseases that we have here. The diabetes, the high blood pressure, yeah,
00:06:01.829 --> 00:07:06.120
cancer, I mean, all those things started going up. So you introduce the more meats, the more processed foods, you've got the white breads, the donuts, the cookies, the cakes, the fast food, hamburgers, and french fries and potato chips, because everybody should eat an Americanized way, right? Like the Americans know what know, the standard American diet, it's typically referred to if you have a hurt it is the sad diet, standard American diet, but it is sad. It's sad, what we've come to think is healthy and unhealthy. And the fact that we would think, just believe when somebody tells us that fruits and vegetables are bad for us fruits just because they're sweet. No, that's not what research shows. That's not what our experience shows. That's not what we found found from our clients to be true. All we see his diseases halting some of them reversing pounds falling off. And it's all through the literature. Why aren't people talking about this? So we don't want you to be confused about what is healthy carb. And what is an unhealthy carb? They're two totally separate things.
00:07:06.120 --> 00:07:26.910
Yes, there are some unhealthy carbs that will make you fat. We talked about what those are today. We've also talked about what the healthy ones are the foundational feeds, those things that we talk about on this podcast all the time that are the foundational foods, those are healthy carbs, and you want to get a lot of them. So plant foods, by nature are high carb.
00:07:27.180 --> 00:07:44.220
But the other thing you want to consider when you're looking at weight is they're just by nature, much lower in calorie the majority of them are, and they fill you up faster because they have all the nutrients and things you need. So your body's not being signaled, hey, more food, please actually
00:07:44.220 --> 00:07:45.180
We're still hung
00:07:45.269 --> 00:07:53.730
After you've eaten the whole value meal, right? You're still going I've got to have another one. And you're trying to figure out how to make that happen and keep the pounds off.
00:07:53.730 --> 00:08:05.610
No, these things make you feel fuller. Go back and listen to the episode on calorie density where we talk in depth about that. That's valuable information that you need. But was there something else you wanted to say?
00:08:05.670 --> 00:08:18.600
Well with carbohydrates to one gram of carbohydrates has four calories, whereas one gram of fat has nine calories. So it's actually lower calorie food when you compare it with high fat diets.
00:08:19.170 --> 00:08:32.759
So we're talking about high fat diets here, that would be what I mean, there are some plant foods that are higher fat than others and we teach that but for the majority of them, they're just lower fat and it's a different type of fat as well.
00:08:32.759 --> 00:08:35.309
And we can do an episode on that later. I fat meaning
00:08:35.370 --> 00:08:42.720
a lot of meats, a lot of dairy a lot of cheeses. Yeah, those are those are my favorite.
00:08:39.480 --> 00:08:45.059
Cheese is concentrated fat. I believe it's 70% fat if I'm not mistaken.
00:08:45.179 --> 00:09:03.360
I can't believe how much of it I used to eat. I mean, it was just ridiculous how much just we didn't know we didn't know any didn't know you don't know what you don't know you always say that. That's for sure. And what's the takeaway here? We want you to know all carbs are not created equal.
00:09:03.629 --> 00:09:43.889
There are good carbs. There are bad carbs, the bad carbs. The villains are not whole plant foods. Those are the things you absolutely need. If you're hurting and you want to fight inflammation, you want your arthritis pain to start subsiding. You want to be filled with energy to do all the things you love. Those are the things you need to get into your life because they're all the nutrients, all the fiber that feature good bacteria, it can change everything for you. Find a way to get more plants this week. Just one simple way even if you feel like I just can't dive all in right now. Start putting more of those things in.
00:09:39.809 --> 00:09:48.149
And by nature, you'll crowd out the things that you don't want to have in your life that are sabotaging your health.
00:09:48.330 --> 00:10:12.720
