00:00:00.501 --> 00:00:05.932
If you have the TV on for any length of time, you're likely going to see commercial that says Milk Life.

00:00:05.932 --> 00:00:09.990
This is extolling the virtues of milk and dairy.

00:00:09.990 --> 00:00:13.821
Now it is over there with the quizzical look, because Milk Life.

00:00:14.022 --> 00:00:14.926
What does that mean?

00:00:15.521 --> 00:00:20.050
We've not really heard the message of Milk Life all that much because we got rid of cable TV.

00:00:20.050 --> 00:00:22.053
What 17 years ago?

00:00:22.399 --> 00:00:27.225
I'm just sitting here thinking when did that become a thing, and what does that even mean?

00:00:27.225 --> 00:00:29.210
It's so nebulous milk life.

00:00:29.359 --> 00:00:31.626
That was actually the word I was thinking of nebulous.

00:00:31.626 --> 00:00:33.521
It's one of those things where it kind of sounds good.

00:00:33.521 --> 00:00:36.951
Maybe it's borrowing from that whole salt life type campaign.

00:00:37.979 --> 00:00:39.220
Oh, that's what it is.

00:00:39.381 --> 00:00:42.042
Well, I don't know, but it sounds good.

00:00:42.042 --> 00:00:46.283
But previously what we had heard was got Milk.

00:00:46.505 --> 00:00:49.746
We grew up on Got Milk, and it's very clever, right.

00:00:49.746 --> 00:00:52.006
We didn't grow up on Got Milk.

00:00:52.027 --> 00:00:55.588
Got Milk started in 1993.

00:00:55.588 --> 00:01:01.951
No way, the year we got married, oh, it did so prior to that, we grew up on milk.

00:01:02.633 --> 00:01:03.953
It does a body good.

00:01:04.052 --> 00:01:11.956
Yes, that campaign ran until 1994, which I thought it actually lasted a whole lot longer than that, but it actually ended the year after we got married.

00:01:12.397 --> 00:01:14.337
I wonder why it ended.

00:01:14.337 --> 00:01:17.781
Why are they not still using it?

00:01:17.781 --> 00:01:18.203
Does a body good?

00:01:18.203 --> 00:01:22.793
I mean, doesn't that sound a lot better than got milk or, even worse, milk life?

00:01:23.180 --> 00:01:29.007
It does sound a lot better, and in this episode we're going to challenge the assertion of does it really do the body?

00:01:29.046 --> 00:01:29.328
good.

00:01:29.328 --> 00:01:32.861
Hey sister, welcome to the Power on Plants podcast.

00:01:32.861 --> 00:01:38.180
Are you tired of staring into the fridge wondering what to eat so you can just feel better?

00:01:38.180 --> 00:01:43.600
Do you want to avoid spending hours in the kitchen making complicated meals in the name of health?

00:01:43.600 --> 00:01:49.894
Would you love to leave fatigue behind and finally have the energy to do all the things you want to do?

00:01:50.316 --> 00:01:57.522
Hi, we're Jared and Anita Roussel, Christ followers, healthcare professionals, parents of four and big fans of great tasting food.

00:01:57.522 --> 00:02:09.729
We, too, tried exercising more, eating natural and clean foods, but we still found ourselves struggling with what we thought were changes that come with age or bad genes, and we weren't finding answers to traditional routes.

00:02:09.729 --> 00:02:16.949
So we dug into the research and created our secret nutritional weapon sustainable plant-based living.

00:02:16.949 --> 00:02:20.724
The truth is, you can eat more whole plant foods, and it's not hard.

00:02:20.724 --> 00:02:22.330
You just need the way.

00:02:22.330 --> 00:02:25.889
That's realistic and delicious so you never feel deprived.

00:02:25.889 --> 00:02:34.131
If you're ready to enjoy your meals, no longer be held back by your health struggles and actively live your life, then you're in the right place.

00:02:34.131 --> 00:02:39.430
So grab your favorite plant-based cup of happy pop in those earbuds and let's get started.

00:02:39.430 --> 00:02:41.554
Hey there, sunshine.

00:02:41.554 --> 00:02:48.287
We are so glad to have you joining us again today, and if this is your first time, welcome to your new whole food plant-based family.

00:02:48.728 --> 00:02:54.070
You're going to find that things are a little bit different around here than some of the other plant-based platforms, and that's okay.

00:02:54.070 --> 00:02:56.125
We've all got to be ourselves, right.

00:02:56.125 --> 00:03:00.764
And this is where you're going to get the real down-to-earth information.

00:03:00.764 --> 00:03:16.786
We're laying it out for you piece by piece, because Power on Plants is all about helping you to finally feel your best, to learn how to stay on the plant-based wagon, or the healthy eating wagon, if you've never tried plant-based before.

00:03:16.786 --> 00:03:29.014
We hear all the time you're struggling, you don't know what to do to stay on a path that's going to keep you well and make you feel good so you can live your God-given calling.

00:03:29.014 --> 00:03:31.025
After all, that's why we're all here.

00:03:31.025 --> 00:03:34.024
You have a purpose, you have a mission, you have a reason.

00:03:34.024 --> 00:03:40.432
You were created, and what we want to ask today is does milk really do the body good?

00:03:40.432 --> 00:03:46.817
Is milk, is dairy going to set you up for the life that you want to live?

00:03:46.937 --> 00:03:52.550
Now you're talking to the real, bonafide dairy queen I've dubbed myself this years ago.

00:03:52.550 --> 00:03:55.284
Actually, Jared might have dubbed me this years ago.

00:03:55.284 --> 00:04:01.001
He didn't call me the specific name, but there's this little story about when he went shopping.

00:04:01.001 --> 00:04:03.945
If you haven't heard it, go back and listen to the other podcast episodes.

00:04:03.945 --> 00:04:06.769
You'll find out how I got the name Dairy Queen.

00:04:06.769 --> 00:04:08.231
But it's a real thing.

00:04:08.451 --> 00:04:11.175
I used to love dairy.

00:04:11.175 --> 00:04:11.961
Now am I telling you?

00:04:11.961 --> 00:04:18.745
Oh, all of a sudden, everything became roses and butterflies and I got over my love of cheesy and creamy things.

00:04:18.745 --> 00:04:27.002
No, I still love cheesy and creamy things and I still eat cheesy and creamy things, but I don't eat dairy anymore, and there's a reason for that.

00:04:27.002 --> 00:04:30.555
And I also the best part, I don't miss it.

00:04:30.555 --> 00:04:39.110
See, one of the biggest keys for you in escaping the health struggles that are holding you back is getting away from the foods that are sabotaging your health.

00:04:39.110 --> 00:04:49.653
And the way those foods are sabotaging your health is that they have a stronghold on you because you love the way they taste or you love the texture they bring to your food, Like dairy and cheese.

00:04:49.653 --> 00:04:50.814
We love those foods.

00:04:50.814 --> 00:04:52.124
I grew up on those.

00:04:52.124 --> 00:04:54.692
I was a sour cream fanatic.

00:04:54.932 --> 00:04:57.401
I don't think there was a dairy product you didn't like.

00:04:57.461 --> 00:04:58.944
No, no, there was not.

00:04:58.944 --> 00:05:05.326
I mean, it was sour cream and dairy yogurt and milk and ice cream you name the kind of cheese.

00:05:05.326 --> 00:05:07.262
I was pretty much a specialist on it.

00:05:07.262 --> 00:05:09.028
I had tried them all.

00:05:09.028 --> 00:05:10.454
I love cheese.

00:05:10.454 --> 00:05:11.959
I think it was a family thing.

00:05:11.959 --> 00:05:13.802
Honestly, my whole family was like that.

00:05:13.802 --> 00:05:18.781
Still to this day, many members of my family that I know of are just cheese crazy.

00:05:18.781 --> 00:05:19.884
They put it on everything.

00:05:20.245 --> 00:05:22.071
There's a reason I was having vascular trouble.

00:05:22.071 --> 00:05:24.726
There was a reason I was addicted to it.

00:05:24.726 --> 00:05:25.569
Yeah, it's a real thing.

00:05:25.569 --> 00:05:28.983
Jared's going to probably get into that today I have a feeling he is.

00:05:28.983 --> 00:05:30.610
But there's a reason.

00:05:30.610 --> 00:05:33.310
These foods are actually addictive.

00:05:33.660 --> 00:05:37.752
So the problem you're having and breaking free from them isn't really your fault.

00:05:37.752 --> 00:05:41.209
I don't want you walking around holding a lot of guilt and thinking it's got to be me.

00:05:41.209 --> 00:05:48.588
I keep being told do this, do that, and I've tried it and I lost 25, 50, 100 pounds in the past and then I gained it all back.

00:05:48.588 --> 00:05:52.084
Well, there's a reason that that's happening to you and it's not your fault.

00:05:52.084 --> 00:05:58.504
You just didn't know how to break free, and we're going to show you exactly how to do that in our upcoming course accelerator.

00:05:58.504 --> 00:06:00.706
I'm getting more and more excited by the day.

00:06:00.706 --> 00:06:12.845
We've laid out this course and I'm in the middle of taping it for you, getting all the final touches on the PDF guides, everything you're going to need to walk you step by step to plant based joy, so that this lasts.

00:06:13.084 --> 00:06:17.473
Why would you want to take on another lifestyle that doesn't last?

00:06:17.473 --> 00:06:18.122
You eat it.

00:06:18.122 --> 00:06:19.730
You can push through for a while.

00:06:19.730 --> 00:06:30.399
You don't want to set yourself up in a quote lifestyle and you've just changed the word from diet to lifestyle because it makes you feel good, but really you're applying those same old methods to this new way of eating.

00:06:30.399 --> 00:06:32.107
That's not going to work.

00:06:32.107 --> 00:06:46.002
You've got to learn the framework, the formula for breaking free, and that framework includes learning how to get off the foods that are keeping you stuck, such as dairy, but you've got to have the foods that taste good to replace it.

00:06:46.283 --> 00:06:49.115
But why in the world do you even not want to eat dairy?

00:06:49.115 --> 00:06:53.853
That's what we're talking about today, because sometimes you don't understand why it matters.

00:06:53.853 --> 00:06:56.242
Oh, it's not that bad If you're like us.

00:06:56.242 --> 00:07:12.701
Before, we started Whole Food, plant-based, when we were our sickest and we thought we were eating healthy and clean because we were eating meat and all this dairy, but we were eating it from a farm and it had no added hormones and it was the clean version, right, but still we were sick.

00:07:12.701 --> 00:07:13.742
Why is that?

00:07:13.742 --> 00:07:20.122
Because it's not healthy for our bodies, and Jared's going to talk a little bit about why that is.

00:07:20.343 --> 00:07:21.745
First of all, is milk healthy?

00:07:21.745 --> 00:07:26.774
Now, it would seem like it is, because we've been hearing these messages all of our lives.

00:07:26.774 --> 00:07:33.502
Milk, it's nature's most perfect food, and that's true for the baby, so for humans.

00:07:33.502 --> 00:07:37.802
Human milk is perfect for human babies and for cows.

00:07:37.802 --> 00:07:41.732
Their milk is perfect for calves and every other animal.

00:07:41.732 --> 00:07:44.990
It's perfect for them during that stage of their lives.

00:07:45.300 --> 00:07:48.069
And it's perfect for growing a calf into a what?

00:07:48.761 --> 00:07:49.764
Into a cow.

00:07:50.360 --> 00:07:51.603
Right, so right.

00:07:51.603 --> 00:07:57.283
There is one simple reason we don't want to eat dairy, and this is why we're struggling with weight.

00:07:57.283 --> 00:08:09.714
If you're eating a lot of milk products, you're eating something that is based on a liquid that was created to grow a calf into a cow.

00:08:10.540 --> 00:08:13.487
Over a very short span of time if you think about it.

00:08:13.487 --> 00:08:20.963
Humans are the only thing on this planet that drink milk from another species after infancy.

00:08:20.963 --> 00:08:23.925
No other animal drinks the milk of another animal After infancy.

00:08:23.925 --> 00:08:26.048
No other animal drinks the milk of another animal.

00:08:26.048 --> 00:08:27.569
Now I do not equate humans and animals.

00:08:27.569 --> 00:08:29.310
I make that differentiation.

00:08:29.310 --> 00:08:31.252
So we are not animals, we're humans.

00:08:31.252 --> 00:08:39.682
But nowhere on the face of this planet does anything drink the milk of something else, and especially not after infancy.

00:08:39.701 --> 00:08:44.773
So that right there already gets my wheels turning, thinking, well, why are we doing this?

00:08:44.773 --> 00:08:49.304
I mean, that does make it seem kind of odd, kind of strange.

00:08:49.304 --> 00:08:54.653
But we're told milk, or we're told milk is nature's most perfect food.

00:08:54.653 --> 00:08:58.696
And so we grow up with these messages and we think, oh, pure milk.

00:08:58.696 --> 00:09:01.283
And it's always portrayed in this positive light.

00:09:01.283 --> 00:09:05.653
So we have this association and we know milk has calcium in it.

00:09:05.653 --> 00:09:08.004
We need calcium, so thus we must be milked.

00:09:08.004 --> 00:09:13.322
And then we get here all the advertising on TV, radio, magazines, billboards.

00:09:13.322 --> 00:09:18.453
So now we just have it ingrained in us that this is pure food.

00:09:19.140 --> 00:09:22.168
And then there was the food guide pyramid that we grew up with.

00:09:22.168 --> 00:09:23.672
That didn't help a whole lot either.

00:09:23.720 --> 00:09:25.683
I don't even remember where milk was on.

00:09:25.683 --> 00:09:34.659
That whole pyramid Dairy was on there, it was on there and it was pretty big from what I remember, and this was endorsed by the US Department of Agriculture.

00:09:34.879 --> 00:09:42.128
So our government is telling us that we need this, but somewhere along the way milk does a body good disappeared.

00:09:42.128 --> 00:09:43.472
Well, why is that?

00:09:43.472 --> 00:09:49.471
Well, there were different health groups that were starting to challenge that whole assertion of is it really a health food?

00:09:49.471 --> 00:09:56.491
And what is found in studies and research is that it's actually not good for us.

00:09:56.491 --> 00:09:59.023
Studies show that it causes inflammation.

00:09:59.023 --> 00:10:03.052
One of the key components of that aspect is within milk.

00:10:03.052 --> 00:10:07.321
There's lactose, which is a sugar made of two simple sugars.

00:10:07.321 --> 00:10:13.933
You have glucose hey, we know glucose but then there's galactose, which is found in milk.

00:10:14.519 --> 00:10:21.301
Now, you just mentioned lactose there, and we know that a lot of people are lactose intolerant, right?

00:10:21.500 --> 00:10:22.221
Correct.

00:10:22.642 --> 00:10:32.936
So it's interesting because you were mentioning to me earlier this week about an interesting milk product for people who are lactose intolerant.

00:10:32.936 --> 00:10:35.969
I want you to share a little bit about that, because that just blew my mind.

00:10:36.600 --> 00:10:39.149
Well, lactose is the primary sugar found in milk.

00:10:39.149 --> 00:10:41.001
Now, as infants, we have the enzymes needed to break that down.

00:10:41.001 --> 00:10:52.936
As infants, we have the enzymes needed to break that down, but as we get older, we lose that enzyme because we should no longer need it beyond infancy, and many people are lactose intolerant.

00:10:52.936 --> 00:11:02.139
So when they drink milk, it causes a lot of gas and bloating because they don't digest it, but the gut bacteria do and it creates gas and it creates uneasiness.

00:11:02.139 --> 00:11:10.071
So what Anita is alluding to is there's a special milk out on the market that is supposed to be for people that are lactose intolerant.

00:11:10.071 --> 00:11:15.570
Now, I used to think that they pulled the lactose out of that, but they don't.

00:11:15.570 --> 00:11:24.133
What they do is they add the enzyme that we no longer have, which is lactase, so that it pre-breaks it down for you.

00:11:24.133 --> 00:11:30.629
Which is lactase, so that it pre-breaks it down for you, but you still have the glucose and the galactose, which are the simple sugars that make lactose.

00:11:30.629 --> 00:11:37.432
The significance of that is is part of the inflammatory process found in milk comes from the galactose.

00:11:38.581 --> 00:11:39.582
Isn't that interesting.

00:11:39.582 --> 00:11:52.830
So you're still getting the inflammatory molecule drinking the milk that supposedly helps you digest the lactose, but it's already pre-digested for you in this product, so you're still getting the byproducts of the lactose.

00:11:53.039 --> 00:12:01.414
You are, and the significance of that is is that we know with research that it's the galactose that creates inflammation.

00:12:01.414 --> 00:12:05.691
We're told drink calcium because it makes your bones stronger.

00:12:05.691 --> 00:12:18.903
Numerous studies have been shown, with as many as 100, 200,000 participants in these studies, that the cultures that drink more milk or eat more dairy actually have a higher incidence of hip fractures.

00:12:18.923 --> 00:12:20.169
Yeah, they have more broken bones.

00:12:20.169 --> 00:12:22.662
I remember reading that in several different studies.

00:12:22.662 --> 00:12:24.407
Yeah, it should blow our mind.

00:12:24.407 --> 00:12:25.951
I mean, what in the world?

00:12:25.951 --> 00:12:36.293
So if we need milk products for calcium, for strong bones, wouldn't it make sense that if we're drinking more milk than other cultures, we would have stronger bones and less fractures?

00:12:36.293 --> 00:12:38.004
But that's not what we find.

00:12:38.004 --> 00:12:42.149
According to the research, we find that we actually have higher numbers of fractures.

00:12:42.149 --> 00:12:44.269
Some things amiss there.

00:12:44.711 --> 00:12:52.631
And as people get older, they get more susceptible, as we have a reduced capacity to detoxify or metabolize galactose.

00:12:52.631 --> 00:12:57.326
So as you get older and you have a higher risk of fractures.

00:12:57.326 --> 00:12:59.490
What do people typically tell you?

00:12:59.490 --> 00:13:02.501
Drink more milk, eat more dairy.

00:13:02.501 --> 00:13:04.405
It has calcium, yikes.

00:13:04.405 --> 00:13:06.850
Well, this is a question that I ask my patients.

00:13:06.850 --> 00:13:09.274
Where do cows get their calcium?

00:13:09.274 --> 00:13:12.565
Cows adult cows aren't drinking milk.

00:13:12.565 --> 00:13:17.833
Where do they get the calcium that goes into the milk that then goes to the calf?

00:13:18.220 --> 00:13:23.173
These are the questions that we should all be asking, not just swallowing the marketing messages.

00:13:23.173 --> 00:13:27.364
Where do cows get their calcium Right?

00:13:28.346 --> 00:13:29.431
They get it from plants.

00:13:29.431 --> 00:13:30.394
They get it from plants.

00:13:30.394 --> 00:13:36.024
I mean, ideally they should be eating grass and dandelions and things growing out in the field.

00:13:36.024 --> 00:13:55.326
Now in the modern food industry they're probably eating corn and soybeans and other food lot type products, not fresh grass roaming out on the fields Like we like to think, on the side of the carton where it says happy cows Probably most of those cows aren't all that happy, not like we think they are.

00:13:55.326 --> 00:13:57.591
So that was one element of dairy.

00:13:57.591 --> 00:14:04.216
Another one and this really I would say it was a shock, a surprise, but it shouldn't have been.

00:14:04.216 --> 00:14:17.332
Dairy is very high in hormones and I never thought about that and we've talked about this before on our podcast how we would buy the no hormone added milk never really thinking it already naturally has hormones in it.

00:14:17.452 --> 00:14:19.298
We have to ask these questions Seriously.

00:14:19.298 --> 00:14:22.152
Why did I never ask that for so many years?

00:14:22.152 --> 00:14:32.437
I was adamant about buying dairy cheese milk and I was so particular to make it healthy for me and my family, I was trying to do the right thing.

00:14:32.437 --> 00:14:36.264
So particular to make it healthy for me and my family, I was trying to do the right thing.

00:14:36.264 --> 00:14:40.308
And we're not saying, oh, shame on you.

00:14:40.308 --> 00:14:48.090
We're saying shame on the companies for making us think that we're doing something better when we're buying a product that is filled with hormones by nature just because of what it is.

00:14:48.090 --> 00:14:54.379
It is a female cow's mammary secretion that is filled with hormones by nature.

00:14:54.965 --> 00:14:57.052
And if you were the same, you're not alone.

00:14:57.052 --> 00:15:03.298
In a survey done, 50% of people had no idea that it just naturally had hormones in it.

00:15:03.298 --> 00:15:06.754
So now the next question is well, what hormones does it have in it?

00:15:06.754 --> 00:15:08.489
Naturally, there's estrogen.

00:15:08.489 --> 00:15:10.855
It's got a high amount of estrogen.

00:15:10.855 --> 00:15:16.109
Estrogen, it's got a high amount of estrogen.

00:15:16.109 --> 00:15:21.139
And cows only produce milk when they're pregnant or have been pregnant, and that process of lactating, making milk, has continued.

00:15:21.666 --> 00:15:23.153
Or are kept pregnant.

00:15:23.153 --> 00:15:23.957
Let's bring that in.

00:15:23.957 --> 00:15:25.184
I don't want to get into animal cruelty.

00:15:25.184 --> 00:15:39.453
Well, they're kept pregnant and that takes me in also to the Holstein cow was actually modified genetically to where it could get pregnant while it was already nursing, which under normal circumstances.

00:15:39.453 --> 00:15:56.510
If an animal or human is breastfeeding an infant, that's going to inhibit a further pregnancy Now, not 100%, but that's kind of how it goes and it makes sense because, as you're taking care of one infant, it may draw resources from the body if you get pregnant again.

00:15:56.510 --> 00:16:05.897
But with the Holstein cow it was genetically quote unquote improved so that it could still get pregnant even while it's producing milk.

00:16:05.897 --> 00:16:12.001
But what happens during that is that you have all those hormones of pregnancy and where do they go?

00:16:12.442 --> 00:16:13.643
They go into that milk, into the milk.

00:16:14.004 --> 00:16:15.730
So you have higher levels of estrogen.

00:16:15.730 --> 00:16:19.888
So there's a study where they looked at six boys when they drank two cups of milk.

00:16:19.888 --> 00:16:24.535
A couple of hours later, their estrogen levels quadrupled.

00:16:25.357 --> 00:16:26.339
Wow, quadrupled.

00:16:26.339 --> 00:16:28.131
That ought to shock you right now.

00:16:28.644 --> 00:16:30.110
They did a similar study in men.

00:16:30.110 --> 00:16:36.049
When they drank a liter of milk, their hormone levels didn't quadruple, but they raised significantly.

00:16:36.471 --> 00:16:38.815
And we're worried about tofu.

00:16:38.815 --> 00:16:43.469
Just wrap your mind around that for a minute, please.

00:16:43.469 --> 00:16:45.331
Let's get real here.

00:16:45.331 --> 00:16:48.277
Tofu is not the problem.

00:16:48.277 --> 00:16:50.466
People honest to goodness.

00:16:50.466 --> 00:16:58.354
We know people who won't let their families eat tofu because they're worried that it's going to make the boys less masculine.

00:16:58.354 --> 00:17:06.462
You're not going to eat enough tofu to do that, and the estrogens in tofu are not the same as the ones in dairy.

00:17:06.462 --> 00:17:10.692
They're actually beneficial to our body and they're not estrogens.

00:17:10.832 --> 00:17:14.426
The phytoestrogens found in soy are not estrogens.

00:17:14.426 --> 00:17:22.229
They just can activate certain specific estrogen receptors that have a protective effect and they do it more weakly.

00:17:22.229 --> 00:17:27.358
Meaning W-E-A-K, it's a milder effect, so it's protective.

00:17:27.358 --> 00:17:32.321
We know that it protects against breast and prostate cancer, so it's not exactly the same thing.

00:17:32.583 --> 00:17:43.877
But estrogen is not the only story, though, here Wait, but so we've got estrogen in tofu that we know is protected because it's linking onto those estrogen receptors.

00:17:44.500 --> 00:17:55.570
Correct the beta estrogen receptors which actually inhibit cell proliferation, and they also will actually stimulate nitric oxide production in your blood vessels to help lower blood pressure.

00:17:55.570 --> 00:17:57.656
So it's actually a protective effect.

00:17:58.325 --> 00:18:01.855
Not so with the estrogen in milk and milk products.

00:18:02.205 --> 00:18:07.494
No, because they are estrone, estriol, estradiol.

00:18:07.494 --> 00:18:10.547
These are the natural hormones that we find in our bodies.

00:18:10.547 --> 00:18:13.675
It quadruples those levels in children.

00:18:13.675 --> 00:18:16.711
It significantly can raise it in men.

00:18:16.711 --> 00:18:18.233
But estrogen is not the only story.

00:18:18.233 --> 00:18:27.346
What's even, higher than the estrogens are prolactin, which prolactin is a hormone in the body that stimulates the breast tissue to make milk.

00:18:27.346 --> 00:18:34.200
Well, in women it stimulates that, but in men it can actually inhibit the production of testosterone.

00:18:34.200 --> 00:18:41.159
So you have higher levels of estrogen and then the prolactin can decrease the production of testosterone.

00:18:41.704 --> 00:18:41.765
Now.

00:18:41.765 --> 00:18:51.877
He's about to get me lit up right now, because what we see in our society is many men today having problems with testosterone and the things that that leads to.

00:18:51.877 --> 00:18:57.531
We're not going to get into blood vessel damage and blood flow problems because they're not eating plants and they're eating dairy and meat.

00:18:57.531 --> 00:18:58.273
We're not going there.

00:18:58.273 --> 00:19:00.512
We're just talking about one thing here with milk.

00:19:00.512 --> 00:19:07.199
Think about how much milk and how many milk products that the majority of men are eating today.

00:19:07.199 --> 00:19:17.125
And then they come to the doctor and they want to know what to do about testosterone being low and the problems it's causing.

00:19:17.125 --> 00:19:25.720
And they're getting put on medications for that without ever being told or asked or talked to about their dairy intake.

00:19:25.720 --> 00:19:27.391
Think about that for a second.

00:19:27.391 --> 00:19:29.332
Wrap your mind around what's happening here.

00:19:29.332 --> 00:19:30.829
This is just one of the problems.

00:19:31.211 --> 00:19:33.247
Yes, and the higher the fat content of whatever the dairy product is just one of the problems.

00:19:33.247 --> 00:19:37.277
Yes, and the higher the fat content of whatever the dairy product is, the higher the level of estrogen.

00:19:37.277 --> 00:19:41.959
So we see that in cheese and things of that nature, you'll see higher levels of estrogen.

00:19:41.959 --> 00:19:55.378
Estrogen will also survive through whatever processing the milk goes through, so that it's still there, because we might think well, I'm not drinking raw milk, I'm eating cheese or sour cream or whatever the case may be, it's still there.

00:19:55.378 --> 00:20:02.315
And there's so many different products such as cheese, sour cream, butter, milk you name it.

00:20:02.556 --> 00:20:03.678
But then those products.

00:20:03.678 --> 00:20:05.191
We think yogurt, oh, it's healthy.

00:20:05.191 --> 00:20:08.464
Well, unless it's plant-based, you might want to think again.

00:20:08.885 --> 00:20:14.768
And then how many products use milk of whatever sort, whether it's butter or dairy, in it?

00:20:14.768 --> 00:20:16.855
I mean, it's so many.

00:20:17.196 --> 00:20:22.472
Oh, it's everywhere, and you might even get a coffee creamer that's dairy free, that has dairy in it.

00:20:22.772 --> 00:20:26.332
Now, that's a little different, that is, they put casein in it.

00:20:26.372 --> 00:20:29.144
Yes, yes, it's the protein that's lifted out of it.

00:20:29.284 --> 00:20:32.509
Well, this is what you're talking about before, about dairy being addictive.

00:20:32.509 --> 00:20:35.414
It is addictive, it is addictive.

00:20:35.515 --> 00:20:38.240
I was addicted to it and you may be addicted to it too.

00:20:38.240 --> 00:20:46.976
But I'm going to tell you there's hope, because Jared was sitting there and he was talking about something he said earlier, like why you want or don't want to drink milk.

00:20:46.976 --> 00:20:51.270
I'm like I don't have any desire to pick up any milk product anymore.

00:20:51.270 --> 00:21:11.130
Not butter, not cheese, not sour cream, not yogurt, not all the different cheeses I used to eat Parmesan, cheddar, smoked gouda, you can name all that stuff and I'm telling you the hold is 100% broken and the fact that that's happened, I would say, is nothing short of a miracle, knowing myself before.

00:21:11.130 --> 00:21:20.520
But it's the testament to how amazing whole plant foods are when you know the simple, enjoyable and tasty way to prepare them.

00:21:20.520 --> 00:21:21.645
I'm not kidding you Like.

00:21:21.645 --> 00:21:27.178
I'm sitting here right now with a drink in my cup and a smile on my face, and it's a plant milk-based drink.

00:21:27.178 --> 00:21:36.530
I didn't have to buy plant milk, I just put some nuts and milk in with my drink and now I have this delicious chocolatey, peanut buttery shake.

00:21:36.530 --> 00:21:39.596
Creamy, it's creamy, it lights me up.

00:21:39.596 --> 00:21:40.778
I don't miss it.

00:21:41.098 --> 00:21:49.690
You have to set yourself up where you have your new favorites and they have to be the same types of things, especially in the beginning.

00:21:49.690 --> 00:21:57.528
To get you started when I say that, I don't want you thinking, oh so I can only have it for a little while, and then I have to break off of it, kind of like a vegan junk food bridge.

00:21:57.528 --> 00:21:59.653
No, no, that's not what I'm saying.

00:21:59.653 --> 00:22:03.971
What I'm saying is, after a while, you will have to have those exact same things all the time.

00:22:03.971 --> 00:22:11.811
I still drink this quite often, several times a month probably, but I don't feel like I have to have it every day because I have other things I like.

00:22:12.393 --> 00:22:26.917
Your mind is going to explode at how restrictive the standard American diet is and how limitless eating whole plant foods is, and how joyful and fun it is when you understand how to make it exciting.

00:22:26.917 --> 00:22:31.276
You have to know the steps and once you know, you will never miss dairy again.

00:22:31.276 --> 00:22:32.669
I promise you.

00:22:32.669 --> 00:22:34.750
You will learn how your body will clear out.

00:22:34.750 --> 00:22:37.894
You will not be addicted to this protein, casein, anymore.

00:22:37.894 --> 00:22:41.313
But casein is in cow milk for a reason.

00:22:41.313 --> 00:22:42.276
It's not evil.

00:22:42.276 --> 00:22:46.298
It's just not good for us because it's not human milk.

00:22:47.101 --> 00:22:55.349
Well, we didn't explain about casein, that the body converts casein into something called casomorphin, which acts like morphine on the brain.

00:22:55.349 --> 00:23:03.727
So it gives that, ah, that feel good feeling, which for a calf, is necessary because it has a positive association with mom.

00:23:03.727 --> 00:23:05.487
That's where my nourishment's coming from.

00:23:05.487 --> 00:23:10.608
It keeps it coming back, but then when it's an adult cow it weans off of that.

00:23:10.608 --> 00:23:12.943
It doesn't have it anymore and there's really no need for it anymore.

00:23:13.424 --> 00:23:21.663
And that's great for a calf that you want to grow into a cow, but not so great for an Anita who's standing in line at the grocery store with a buggy full of dairy products.

00:23:21.663 --> 00:23:23.730
That is not good for Anita.

00:23:23.730 --> 00:23:27.362
And there's so many reasons why we're just scratching the surface here.

00:23:27.362 --> 00:23:30.971
But you've got to understand you're addicted to these things for a reason.

00:23:30.971 --> 00:23:36.584
You're struggling with these things for a reason.

00:23:36.584 --> 00:23:41.983
You're having health issues for a reason and these are just a few of the things that are going on that when you break free from them and you know how to live in a way that's healthy for you.

00:23:41.983 --> 00:23:46.221
This is why you see whole plant-based helping with so many different health issues.

00:23:46.221 --> 00:23:48.345
We're not making this stuff up.

00:23:48.345 --> 00:24:02.380
We're not just saying, oh well, it works for high blood pressure and high cholesterol and extra pounds and autoimmune disease and cancers and type 2 diabetes and it can prevent and even reverse these things and it helps with allergies and skin issues.

00:24:02.380 --> 00:24:07.569
Like we're not making this stuff up, we see it happen every single day.

00:24:07.921 --> 00:24:09.366
And the research backs it up.

00:24:09.366 --> 00:24:12.840
And we're not the only providers out there preaching this message.

00:24:12.840 --> 00:24:14.525
I wish more were.

00:24:14.525 --> 00:24:38.080
Oh, yes, but there are still those out there, but, I would say joyfully, every year that number is growing as more and more people learn about lifestyle medicine and they join with the American College of Lifestyle Medicine or the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine and start showing this to their patients, start getting on podcasts and start teaching this stuff so that everyone can know.

00:24:38.300 --> 00:24:40.125
It's seriously another big wake up.

00:24:40.125 --> 00:24:42.672
It's a part of the wake up that's happening today.

00:24:42.672 --> 00:24:49.525
We've got to understand that these marketing messages are out there and these things have been set up by our enemy.

00:24:49.525 --> 00:24:54.326
You know we always hear, oh well, this company's out to get you or that's out to get you, or whatever.

00:24:54.326 --> 00:24:58.848
There's something bigger behind it than just the companies wanting the money and all that.

00:24:58.960 --> 00:25:00.326
I'm not getting into it right now.

00:25:00.326 --> 00:25:11.308
We are gonna dive into that some in Accelerator, because you need to understand where this stuff is coming from and why you believe these things and what the things you believed are that actually are not true.

00:25:11.308 --> 00:25:28.784
And then you're going to be able to get set free, because if you don't know the myths you believed and you don't understand why you believe them and you don't know how to replace them with truth, you're going to keep staying stuck and struggling in the same health struggles you've had time and time again, like me with my cheese addiction.

00:25:28.784 --> 00:25:45.728
Listen, I totally get it, but you can still have your creamy soups, your creamy oatmeals, your creamy mashed potatoes, your cheesy sandwiches, your cheesy burritos and bean dips, all those things that you love.

00:25:45.728 --> 00:25:48.794
You can still have those things.

00:25:49.220 --> 00:25:52.589
We're just going to do it in a little different way, but not an inferior way.

00:25:52.839 --> 00:25:53.662
And not a hard way.

00:25:53.702 --> 00:25:58.221
Not a hard way, but I would say a superior way, clearly with health, but also with flavor.

00:25:58.221 --> 00:26:01.390
We do not miss anything about dairy.

00:26:01.390 --> 00:26:07.872
At this point We've gotten past that whole casomorphin issue, because I remember eating pizza and that first bite.

00:26:07.892 --> 00:26:13.031
It was just that oh, and I never really thought much about it.

00:26:13.119 --> 00:26:21.673
But now, retrospectively, I can look at it saying that was the casein hitting my morphine receptors in my brain, giving me that little dopamine hit of.

00:26:21.673 --> 00:26:30.034
Oh, this feels good Now that we're past that, but we have foods that we love, and love even more than what we were eating before.

00:26:30.034 --> 00:26:31.202
We love this life.

00:26:31.463 --> 00:26:32.487
Oh yeah, absolutely.

00:26:32.487 --> 00:26:33.530
There's no doubt about it.

00:26:33.530 --> 00:26:36.670
We wouldn't even think about going back and you will get to that same place.

00:26:36.670 --> 00:26:38.164
Nothing tempts me.

00:26:38.164 --> 00:26:40.268
I'm not tempted to have a cheat day.

00:26:40.268 --> 00:26:42.288
I don't ever think about having a cheat day.

00:26:42.288 --> 00:26:44.567
It's not because I'm some superior person.

00:26:44.567 --> 00:26:47.588
It's not because I have more willpower than you either.

00:26:47.588 --> 00:26:56.667
I don't have to willpower through because I've set myself up with the lifestyle that I love, using a five-step framework that works.

00:26:56.667 --> 00:26:57.048
It works.

00:26:57.048 --> 00:26:57.930
It works.

00:26:57.930 --> 00:27:02.026
Once you can break free from these things and you know what to put back in their place.

00:27:02.026 --> 00:27:03.790
What are you going to miss?

00:27:03.790 --> 00:27:07.530
And if you miss something, we're there going, okay.

00:27:07.530 --> 00:27:08.976
Well, this is what you do instead.

00:27:08.976 --> 00:27:15.855
Here's the ingredient you use instead, here's the baking method you use instead, and it is so much easier and so much quicker.

00:27:15.855 --> 00:27:17.961
And then you start getting results.

00:27:17.961 --> 00:27:18.865
You feel great.

00:27:18.865 --> 00:27:29.624
You're dropping weight without dieting and all those miserable methods, and everything just starts falling into place and you now find yourself living the life you love in every single way imaginable.

00:27:30.065 --> 00:27:31.248
This reminds me of something.

00:27:31.248 --> 00:27:40.318
Several years back, when we moved to Florida, we had come down here on a vacation and the county we now live in thought wow, these are the most beautiful beaches.

00:27:40.318 --> 00:27:43.230
We had no idea that this even exists in the United States.

00:27:43.230 --> 00:27:48.210
And then we started thinking why not create a life we don't need a vacation from?

00:27:48.210 --> 00:27:49.625
So that's what we did.

00:27:50.981 --> 00:27:53.506
Oh, such a great example, such a great example.

00:27:53.880 --> 00:28:03.553
But that's what we're doing with the Power on Plants method here, We've created a life we don't need a cheat day from, because we love what we eat.

00:28:03.553 --> 00:28:06.368
It fuels our body well, we feel great.

00:28:06.368 --> 00:28:07.621
We miss nothing.

00:28:07.941 --> 00:28:09.481
Preach it, brother, preach it, that is it.

00:28:09.521 --> 00:28:10.482
We miss nothing.

00:28:10.742 --> 00:28:11.623
I mean, what a great thing.

00:28:11.623 --> 00:28:16.165
So you set up the lifestyle that you don't need to escape from.

00:28:16.165 --> 00:28:26.432
So what Jared's saying is we were coming down here for one week, maybe two weeks a year, in a great year, and we lived for those weeks and the rest of the time we lived in a place that we were just kind of surviving.

00:28:26.432 --> 00:28:30.435
So we thought, why not set up the lifestyle that we're going to love living every single day?

00:28:30.435 --> 00:28:40.232
And so now we live in the place that we vacationed in before and every day we can walk outside and we're walking in the palm trees and the fresh air and we can get to the beach if we want to.

00:28:40.232 --> 00:28:42.628
It's the same thing with your lifestyle.

00:28:42.628 --> 00:28:46.750
So what Jared is saying is and that's brilliant, it's the same thing with what you eat.

00:28:46.750 --> 00:28:53.131
Set yourself up for the lifestyle of eating in the way that you don't need an escape from.

00:28:53.692 --> 00:28:54.313
Exactly.

00:28:54.313 --> 00:29:02.928
Brilliant, you're not suffering through six days or 13 days so that you can have that one day a week or one day every couple weeks of.

00:29:02.928 --> 00:29:10.416
Well, now I get to eat the things that I like, which, with the standard American diet, is going to sabotage your health.

00:29:10.416 --> 00:29:20.105
We eat the stuff that promotes our health, that fuels our body well and fuels our body to health, and we eat that every day and we love it and that right there is freedom.

00:29:20.346 --> 00:29:21.088
Yes, it is.

00:29:21.088 --> 00:29:27.873
We could go on and on and bring up more reasons why dairy isn't healthy and how the marketing messages have set you up.

00:29:27.873 --> 00:29:32.988
The main point is we want you to understand that where you are with your health struggles it's not your fault.

00:29:32.988 --> 00:29:37.474
It really has been a setup in so many ways and you just didn't know.

00:29:37.474 --> 00:29:39.083
But now you do.

00:29:39.083 --> 00:29:41.930
You've listened to 300 and something podcast episodes.

00:29:41.930 --> 00:30:06.761
If you haven't go back and listen to them, you're going to be set free, episode by episode, and at some point along the line when you're ready to finally feel your best and start implementing step by step as you listen, and at some point along the way, you're going to say I'm done, I'm ready to go in, to do whole plant foods and to stop falling off the healthy eating wagon.

00:30:06.761 --> 00:30:13.193
I need someone to walk me, step by step, through the framework that actually works.

00:30:13.193 --> 00:30:16.711
That's going to set me up to make this lifestyle exciting.

00:30:16.711 --> 00:30:26.008
That's going to allow me to break free from all those foods that had a hold on me before that I just couldn't seem to get rid of, where I'll be able to eat what I want.

00:30:26.008 --> 00:30:30.567
I'm going to absolutely love it, desiring these foods.

00:30:30.567 --> 00:30:37.673
They're going to make me feel amazing, and now I find myself living the life I've always wanted to live.

00:30:37.673 --> 00:30:40.723
I'm running and playing with my children and my grandchildren.

00:30:40.723 --> 00:30:43.354
I'm not stuck in the kitchen for two hours.

00:30:43.354 --> 00:30:50.670
I'm actually out, making memories with the ones I love and serving others while my meal cooks itself at home.

00:30:50.670 --> 00:30:58.471
I mean, these are the types of things we're talking about here Time freedom, body freedom, where you no longer feel stuck in your body.

00:30:58.471 --> 00:31:02.290
Your body actually works for you instead of against you.

00:31:02.290 --> 00:31:05.628
When you are ready, we are here for you.

00:31:05.628 --> 00:31:10.027
