00:00:54.149 --> 00:01:11.939
Are you like me Do you absolutely love this time of the year. I mean, finally, the birds are singing, everything's blooming, it's beautiful outside. And of course, with that comes getting outside more and more, because it's prettier, it draws me out, it's like a magnet I can't stay inside
00:01:12.359 --> 00:01:26.640
is you just really come alive and are a lot more creative outside. I hate being in the office, we have a very lovely desk set up to beat in our office, we learn functional, but it's just a creativity does not flow until she steps outside. And that's
00:01:26.640 --> 00:01:33.510
not my creative space at all. I can sit in here type of podcast for a little bit. But then I'm going to the office.
00:01:33.510 --> 00:01:35.670
And a lot of times I take a child with me or something.
00:01:35.670 --> 00:01:43.319
Well, the office is our pool area. I love it there because there are different trees and the big bowls full of geraniums.
00:01:43.379 --> 00:01:46.680
I just love it getting outside.
00:01:43.379 --> 00:02:17.639
And I think it's just we were created to be outside it makes you come alive. I mean, the fresh air the sunshine, you need that to make vitamin D, you're getting your bare feet to the ground. I do that a lot. And that's really important. It may sound kind of woowoo. But it's not it's scientifically shown to be important. Why is that? Well, odds are it's probably because we were made to be outside, right. But somehow we built these walls and we're inside all day long. And we're not breathing the fresh air. Most people don't even open up their windows. I mean, I think probably nine out of 10 days at least we have our windows and doors. I
00:02:17.639 --> 00:02:24.960
know for six months of the year solid minimum will have the windows open, I just want to bleed the breeze blow right through I
00:02:24.990 --> 00:02:54.300
got it. I love it. I love it so much. So with this time of year, getting outside more, the big question is how do you protect your skin from the sun in the best way possible. And we're counting down the top 10 ways you can do that and do that naturally. But we're gonna start with number 10. We're not going to give away number one just yet. So we're gonna start with number 10. And number 10 is get your water was water important?
00:02:54.330 --> 00:03:01.229
Well, you've got to stay well hydrated. I mean, if you're dehydrated, the cellular functions just don't occur like they should.
00:03:01.530 --> 00:03:07.379
So in other words is really important for overall health, just overall health.
00:03:03.810 --> 00:04:58.740
Yes, right. And we talked about in some other episodes and different times we teach in the membership to how do you get the best amount of water that you can during the day. So a lot of people I've heard have tried different things like Well, I'm going to put X number of cups on my desk and fill all these cups with water. And so I can drink them at 678 times a day. And that doesn't usually work because it's a lot of different cups, and it's a mess, and you got to wash them and clean them every day. And then you know, some people will say, Well, I have this one glass, and so I'm going to fill it. And then I'm going to fill it again half day, but they somehow walk away from their desk leave their cat half of it is empty, the rest of it sits there all day long and never gets refilled for the second go round. So what we found is just having two cups that are your favorite that you can go ahead and put the water in there, keep it in there and it's already filled for your daily amount of water, you just want to make see, you know, check and see what your daily amount is. Find the right size caps where you can use just two cups because it's just two cups to rinse and clean. That's it and make sure they bring you joy. We're all about making things the most minimalistic, the most simplistic, they can be so fine two cups that bring you joy, get rid of all those other cups up there that you've collected on all the vacation, all the little plastic cap solvable, cheap cups that you don't like and just have a couple that bring you joy, because truth is you're probably reaching past all those things just to get the one or two you like anyway, or you're grabbing the ones you don't like and so you don't drink your water, because you don't like them. So it's important, but why is this important for skin? When we're talking about overall health here we know we've got to be well hydrated your body to not flush out the impurities if it doesn't have the water at names, and most people are walking around the hydrated. I mean that's just the truth. And so people end up getting kidney stones and getting different diseases because we don't have enough water on a regular basis.
00:04:54.930 --> 00:05:28.439
It's super, super important. And we have again different We talked about doing this, but that's not what this episode is about so much strive to try to stay on task here. It's really important water affects your skin health, it's a known fact your skin is the largest organ in your body. And just like it affects all the other organs, it affects your skin, it can affect the plasticity of it, your ability to repair damage and things like that. So get your water stay well hydrated, very important. And number nine is
00:05:28.589 --> 00:05:32.370
use daily oil such as coconut or olive oil.
00:05:32.759 --> 00:05:34.290
Do we mean on your salads?
00:05:34.589 --> 00:05:37.860
No, not on your salad.
00:05:34.589 --> 00:05:42.180
So this is probably one of the few times that we will actually say, hey, oil can be a good thing. Pretty much.
00:05:42.658 --> 00:06:02.939
We buy oil. I mean, really it is. We don't use it for anything else. I think, on rare occasion, because we don't eat pancakes so much. But I have this cloud cake recipe and this cookbook, cloud cake is what I call them because they're pancakes, but they're just as light as hair. But they're made with whole grain and they're they don't have any oil in them.
00:06:03.059 --> 00:06:13.348
No egg, nothing like that No animal products, so they're very healthy for you. But when we make them, even with nonstick, it's almost like you need just that little bit as long
00:06:13.709 --> 00:06:17.279
as a player will use avocado oil, because as a very high smoke point. So
00:06:17.550 --> 00:06:58.860
burn, I don't even recommend using spray oils, because of just the different things that can be in the sprays. And people think they're not getting much, but you're really getting a lot more than you think. So with the avocado oil, you can really put like a little drop on a plate and just use a brush, I use a little silicone brush and just lightly brush it over that pain. So that's one again, we're off topic, but I'm gonna throw those tips in there. I just can't stand it because we've got so many of those to share. But why do you want to get the oil you don't want to eat it. This is not eating oil or taking an oil for skin protection, because that's not good for you particular like coconut oil, which was touted to be healthy, we were told Oh, it's healthy, you need to get coconut oil, but it's very high in saturated
00:06:58.860 --> 00:07:04.319
very high in saturated fats and can actually be at a higher percentage than the fats found in meat.
00:07:04.350 --> 00:07:04.709
So we
00:07:04.709 --> 00:07:11.430
know that that clowder otter are not a health food despite what you hear, right.
00:07:07.170 --> 00:07:25.949
But use topically, it does have sun protection benefit, it has an SPF of about four. And what we've seen is that it blocks about 20% of the UV rays. So using it on a daily basis, it helps to moisturize your skin but also does help to provide some sun protection.
00:07:25.980 --> 00:08:19.199
So I don't put on sunscreen every single day. But I go outside on and off throughout the day. So what I'll do when I hop out of the shower is I'll just have a thing of coconut oil that I just use as my moisturizer. And I'll put a little bit of my hand rubbing together until it melts, and then just rub that on my skin and you use that as my moisturizer. If you have all your skin that might not be the best thing for you on a regular basis. But I like to use it on my arms and legs and my chest as well around my neck. Just because I do get some sun exposure. We live in Florida, it's very sunny here a lot of the year. And so I do that. And it's a great way if you're not going to put on sunscreen every time you go out just to get a little bit of protection, but still be able to allow your body to make vitamin D. So you're not putting a full sunblock on but you are giving your skin some protection. And it's really a great moisturizer. It feels greasy, but it soaks and clean.
00:08:15.000 --> 00:08:20.220
Yeah. And so it's really, really good for you for that.
00:08:20.430 --> 00:08:27.689
Now, sometimes people may want to put a an essential oil in the oil. Yeah, what are your thoughts on that?
00:08:27.720 --> 00:08:42.389
Yeah, that's not a good idea. If you're going to especially if you're going outside now, it can be okay, if you're just using the essential oil for some other reason. And you want to use that to make the essential oil not as strong so that it won't hurt your skin or something like that
00:08:42.389 --> 00:08:49.710
a lot of them you need to dilute you don't want to just put them on full strength, the essential correct essential oils don't want to put it full strength on your skin.
00:08:49.799 --> 00:09:42.299
Exactly. But some if I know I'm going to be out in the sun, I like the smell of essential oils. And sometimes I'll do that just to have that smell and put a little bit in the oil and use that bet I recommend not doing that on a regular basis because some essential oils cause photo sensitivity, meaning they make your skin more sensitive to the sun's rays. So you don't want to do that. If you're using the coconut oil as a daily moisturizer. Just avoid the avoid the central assessor decide to do it you don't have to worry about which ones cause photosensitivity. Just Yeah, we don't like to do that because it becomes a lot to remember but I do know that in particular the citrus like lime can be burned bergamot can be orange. I think also, there's some other ones as well you can look that up. But again, if you're using the oil, which is a great way to help protect your skin from this
00:09:42.330 --> 00:09:43.529
do it very naturally.
00:09:43.710 --> 00:09:49.470
Exactly. And you can just rub it on like a moisturizer. So that is tip number nine.
00:09:49.500 --> 00:09:53.009
Now now number seven, I'm sorry, Number eight, Number eight,
00:09:53.039 --> 00:09:55.710
I got a 10 nine and a
00:09:56.309 --> 00:10:03.210
number eight is that that's mine because that's the one that I I get to do this as yours. It's using umbrella.
00:10:03.360 --> 00:10:09.240
Yeah, we do live in Florida and we live not too far from the beach. So when we go to the beach, we'll use the umbrella.
00:10:09.450 --> 00:10:12.120
You can use an umbrella wherever you are
00:10:12.210 --> 00:10:14.460
exactly like if you're going out to like,
00:10:16.590 --> 00:10:18.779
Well, yeah, can't even think about that to
00:10:18.779 --> 00:10:27.029
a lawn party. You know, sometimes neighborhoods have parties and it's hot in that sunshine, and they're having a band or something's going on or there's so it's not
00:10:28.110 --> 00:10:37.440
really you can get one of those little canopies. So if you're out on dirt, that's probably going to be an easier way to do it. Because then you can have the little spikes you drive into the ground to help hold it in place,
00:10:37.710 --> 00:11:01.379
bad at the beach, but at the beach, you know, it's so funny because we would sit there and we would, we'd be sitting at the beach, and we do all the stuff that the beach umbrella ghosted, so they'd be rocking back and forth to get the umbrella way down in the sand so it wouldn't blow off. And it didn't matter what we did sandbags rock in it, pressing it down, hammering it, like the umbrella would shake if there was wind, and it would start to come loose,
00:11:01.950 --> 00:11:13.169
almost like a wing where the wind would blow and then it would lift off and like it tried to travel down the Bleep once or twice,
00:11:13.198 --> 00:11:23.458
yeah, and years and years and years. So we just got sick of having to sit, we said this never happening again. So Jared would just sit there and hold the umbrella and we're going okay, there's got to be a better way.
00:11:23.549 --> 00:11:28.470
I was not letting the wind to feed me. I was gonna hold that thing down. Well,
00:11:28.799 --> 00:11:30.690
we found this way. But we're down
00:11:31.259 --> 00:11:42.450
to that little trick and it works amazingly well. You can actually buy an auger. Now this is meant and you can find it at any hardware store or home improvement store.
00:11:42.480 --> 00:11:45.299
You've got yours. You got ours today. Yeah,
00:11:45.360 --> 00:11:58.259
I think it was about$10. And it's meant for drilling small holes in the dirt for putting in plants or bulbs and things of that nature. And it's I think it's a couple inches wide, but it's perfectly for the beach, I have a cordless drill.
00:11:58.470 --> 00:12:20.850
Now I'm a bit of a sand person, meaning that I don't like sand to get into things I enjoy going to the beach. I don't like sand inside of stuff. So I put it in a bag, like a big. Yeah, but the drill and big almost like a gallon sized Ziploc bag. And when I use that for the auger and you just hear it's done the whole is
00:12:20.879 --> 00:12:37.110
it takes about two seconds, two seconds. You hear real people are looking ever like what No, they really, I've never even seen me by turn ahead. So I guess people have seen other people do it or it's just quiet. Either way, it works. And we don't care anyway.
00:12:38.009 --> 00:12:42.629
Another problem with it, you put it in there, and then you pack in the sand around it.
00:12:39.960 --> 00:12:46.289
Because it gets a good deep, it gets it about 18 inches deep.
00:12:42.629 --> 00:12:51.750
Whereas doing it the other way, you might get it maybe eight inches deep into the sand or the old little corkscrew thing. It just didn't
00:12:51.779 --> 00:13:21.149
Yeah, there's no going back for us we are sold on this method, you might have a better method. If you do, let us know as you love to hear. But this is working great for us. So get under an umbrella, it's a wonderful way to protect yourself. Don't just sit out in the direct center. And that works really great. And then number seven is wear protective clothing. You can wear a light swim shirt or some kind of like cover up so you're not hot and when it's hot outside, you're not going to wear one away or a thick long sleeve shirt.
00:13:21.179 --> 00:13:33.149
Obviously that doesn't even make sense. And so you might want to have just one or two really lightweight long sleeve shirts that you love in your closet that you can grab quickly. And I'll just put those out even in Florida. Even in the summer.
00:13:33.149 --> 00:13:36.029
Sometimes I'll wear long sleeve shirt just to protect my skin.
00:13:36.779 --> 00:13:38.009
So really thin though and
00:13:38.009 --> 00:13:49.889
there Yeah, it's almost a silky tight material so that the heat dissipates really well when the winds blowing and if you're hot, just get the shirt wet and then that water evaporates off the shirt and that'll really cool you down quickly.
00:13:50.159 --> 00:14:36.210
Yeah, but they make the sport shirts now to that kind of wick away the moisture from your skin as well. So there are a lot of different options here but I would recommend a light color chart as well because you're not going to get as hot out so it works great. And then don't forget your eyes number six were UV protected sunglasses. Now UV protective sunglasses will allow you to get out and not have the pain not have the headaches coming on but eye protection is super important and something that we don't think about when we start talking about skin and skincare and being out in the sun unless it's super bright. I mean maybe you walk outside you head to the beach or head somewhere to the pool and it's overcast and then you get out and you realize you don't have your glasses because you know they're out again right
00:14:36.240 --> 00:14:40.649
when you walk out and it's super bright. That's a very good reminder I put my sunglasses on so
00:14:40.649 --> 00:15:24.690
again I say simplify and minimize what you have pick one or two pair that you just love and have them in a place where you know they're going to be at all times it will save you so much stress which also improves your health. So get those places where your one or two favorite things are get rid of all the the tinned fit 20 other scratch Here's what you have laying around, just get rid of him and just have two really good pair, in a case that you can grab and go. Maybe even keep one in your car, I usually keep one in my purse or my beach bag and one in the car. And it's fantastic. So I can just grab and go and we're ready and I don't walk out the door and forget them. That's part one of the top 10 ways to help protect your skin from the sun where we shared number 10 through six of our top 10 ways.
00:15:24.870 --> 00:15:52.679
